draining coolant for img install...

hey y'all!! i'm gonna be installin my p2r throttle body spacer soon and while i'm at it, i'm going to go ahead and install the intake manifold gasket. i was reading the diy and it seems pretty staright forward and i saw that you gotta drain the coolant, but how much coolant does the 8th gen si hold so i can put an appropriate sized catch pan under the car. thanks a lot.

you do not need to drain your coolant if you do your gasket my way. PM me and I will tell you my secret. lol. No seriously I figured out a way to do this mod in under an hour with very minimal coolant loss. I only had to put about half a quart in.

Probably just clamped the coolant hose running from the water pump and to the bung on the intake manifold.

Just make sure you don't get it on the ground, it sits and pets love to drink it and will die.

Mike here knows what he's talking about, it's deffinitly a way not everyone will think about but when you finally find out his way of doing it you'll feel like an ass for doing it the long and hard way. Mike is no IDIOT and I +1 rep him for helping me out. His way is so simple yet ingenious, so for all you haters out there go about your 5hr install on this IMG or PM him respectfully because we are all here to help eachother out, THATS WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR. Just because he hasn't done a DIY doesn't mean there isn't an easier way. Thanks Mike, you made my life a hell of alot easier with your way of doin this IMG install, and I'll say it again I +1 rep you for that

Thanks bro. Thats what this is all about. Helping each other. If anyone needs help with this PM me. And if anyone wants to do a DIY with my trick go for it. It's so cold out up here and my boss is an ass and wont let me do it at work that's why I haven't done a DIY yet.

I'd rather guess so I'd say that your uber secret is something along the lines of:

1) Remove the stock intake manifold studs.
2) Remove the stock intake manifold bolts.
3) Pull intake manifold away from the block enough to grab and remove the stock metal gasket.
4) Insert the IMG and line up everything.
5) Reinstall all bolts and studs.
6) Clean up any spills.
7) Add more coolant.

Pretty close dude. There is alittle more to it than that but that's the basics. And it was never an uber secret. I was only being a goof. I just never got around to doing it. Plus I work on cars all day. The last thing I want to do is take apart my car when I get home. Unless I'm installing something new.
