CAI vs SRI vs Drop in K&N
Im sure that this question is on a lot of peoples minds... or maybe just mine.. but anyway... benefits and disadvantages of going to these routes? I know the CAI is supposed to give you the best power increase but i heard that a short ram or even a drop in is a pretty good mod... i dont plan to go crazy in modding the car... oh its a dx

CAI are the best that we can get, if you live in a flooding zone, I suggest you dont get one. Gives you like a 5-7hp gain, and also depends on tempature.
SRI are pretty good for the people that want a loud sounding vtec, and that are in a flooding zone, and for those who just want mainly sound, and alittle bit of a gain. 1-3hp gain, also depending on Tempature. As for the K&N filter drop in, lets just say, it doesnt change the sound at all, and what I have heard it gives you alittle gain 1-2hp, and not much, but its cheaper, $60. If I were you id wait to get the Injen CAI. Just a thought.. |

my 2 cents : Cold Air = best gains ,more involved install ,threat of hydrolock in wet weather , and because of location of filter, maintenance can be troublesome , sounds good too . SRI = They sound great ,but power gains are minute in real life driving, and in summer driving you'll experience Heat Soak Bogging that will kill any gains you saw from it . K+N = better overall gains than the sri , and you won't have the maintenance + heat soak bogging issues you get with sri , sound is a little better than stock . Hope this was helpful ![]()

I have personally owned all three..
Had AEM V2 SRI on my '02 Si...couldn't stand the heat soak during daytime driving, eventually sold that and got AEM CAI..much better. I now have K&N drop in, and no heat soak problem at all, noticeable gain in the lower/mid rpm ranges... Just like the posts above me, get a K&N or a CAI...forget SRI.... |

i had the aem cai for the si and sold it. it soaked up enough water to kill the engine (not hydrolock, just die), so it scared me considering it rains all the time here in mobile,al. as far as pixy's comment about "just changing the cai to sri in rainy weather"....wow, you have to take the driver wheel off, the splash guards in the fender well and under the car....not some 30 second job...if you worry about rain problems at all, don't get the cai.period. i do miss the mean sound of it though...
