I hope this doesn't wreck the thread, but I feel the need to mention something I read years ago when I was using a K&N air filter. There's no doubt a K&N will add some horses, but according to several sites I've read, they also allow far more particulates into your engine. The one that finally convinced me was a report from a guy that managed a fleet of hundreds of vehicles for his company. He regularly sent oil off to 3rd party labs and found that, after installing K&N filters on multiple vehicles and testing the oil from those vehicles, levels of silicon had increased dramatically. As a result, levels of aluminum and iron also rose, indicating that the engine was wearing out faster.
It's probably been 10 years since I read that report, so I doubt it's around any more, but I just did a Google for the words "K&N filter test silicone" (without quotes) and found many sites with similar data. It seems installing a K&N filter is synonymous with decreased engine life.
Conscience now clear. :)
Max.
