why do you ask this question in the first place? If you think you have something to worry about my good man, choose on the side of caution. If you're going to modify your car to this extreme...understand there's consequences to your actions!

question: do you know if you can reprogram the ecu back to stock once you reflashed the ecu? just curious.

^ Hard to blame that on the reflash when he says the motor popped at 6500 RPM

Question

I have a question;
If the hondata reflash changes the cam angle and such, does that mean that they have to adjust the fuel trim to work with it? I didn't think that they were messing with anything like that. Wouldn't it just move the same trim earlier in the rpm band?

Sure, revving that high might earn you some extra time to shift as you string out each gear, but the powerband of the engine occurs far below the rev limit in the first place. Without engine mods like cams or new pistons, etc, what need is there for the Si to rev that high anyway?

Why do I ask this? Well, because Honda Tuning magazine says this in the Feb/March 2008 issue (page 88 "Wrenchin'" section) where they tested a 2006 Si Coupe with the Hondata ECU reflash - mods included AEM cold intake, DC race header, and DC race exhaust. They got 30 horsepower, safely. Here's the quote about the rev limit increase:

"Third, Hondata also raises the rev limit from 8,000 to 8,600 rpm. Right now this change makes little difference since our power difference at the top end is negligible. We suspect swapping in a set of '06 TSX cams may prove different though. The added lift and duration that both the intake and exhaust cams possess should increase our potentional for top-end power a bit. For now, our power gains remain in the 4,500 to 6,000 rpm zone, which is after all a reasonable place to spend a lot of time at, especially since this is a daily driver."

Okay, there's the quote direct from a test on a new Civic Si with mods with the ECU reflash from Hondata. So my question is this: if you're not racing your car and haven't swapped out the necessary parts in order for the engine to handle the increased RPMs, then why are you revving your car beyond the limit in the first place? I don't even like getting it near 8,000 as it is, let alone getting it up to 9 or 10k for crying out loud. No warranty would cover such madness, with or without an ECU reflash. :)
awsome post, i believe anyone is crazy for getting our car over 7k let alone 8k rpm, i always shift before 4500 now anyway, i only have 300 miles on the car as it is, but the few times i went on the freeway i got to about where the VTEC engaged and shifted

in the streets i drive the speed limit, the SI badge is a target for AZ cops , and i hate the gas prices right now, and they are only ever going to go up, unless by a miracle someone invents syntheitc gasoline

anyway good post all , i am glad i came , honda- tech is not as endepth as i would like

If I may ask, why do you think shifting over 7k is crazy? Gas prices, speed or fear of engine failure?

ok it has been half a year since the last post, but I thought I would give me two cents anyway.

Mis shifting is the main reason for revving 8200+ RPMs. Regardless whether you have the reflash or not would they not void the warranty if you pass 8200?

If that is true then why would it matter if you have the reflash or not since even if you had the stock ECU your warranty would voided as well.

They couldn't void the warranty but they CAN deny the claim.

just get the reflash, who care if they void they warranty or not...even if you dont have the reflash and ur car is stock, it's not like Honda would cover anything, ever claim you make to Honda they gonna try to deny your claim so who care, just get the reflash, enjoy it while you can :)
