3 Inch Exhaust

Just curious guys, and I apologize if this has been brought up before, but will a 3 inch system with no resonators get me constantly pulled over by the police, or will it be some what quiet until I mash it to the ground. I am also curious about what VTEC will sound like with that system. I am currently having a Turbo-Mafia system being built for me, and with your help, I might have a resonator put on when it gets here. Thanks everyone for all your help.

Does having a turbo quiet your exhaust, and if so, for a while anyway, Ill be running stock exhaust manifold and possibly a x intake with the 3 inch TM exhaust. But nice video, that is one sick civic, almost as loud as my old SRT-4 lol.

almost is the key word. I had an SRT-4 before as well... but... honestly a 3" exhaust on a NA car is actually going to DECREASE the potential of the car until you go turbo... and honestly... a 2.5" exhaust is good for up to about 325-350hp... if you stay NA then your going to be flowing TOO MUCH out of the head too fast and it'll decrease performance... you need just that little bit of back pressure to keep an NA car peaky all the time

It all depends on the cops in your area, like if they are strict or not.

At what RPM am I looking at that it will get me noticed, or is it a constant loudness lol. Will getting a race header help quit it up, or will it just make it louder due to freer flowing exhaust. Man, there are so many variables to take into effect. I'm thinking I should have went with the 2.5 now lol. I just didn't want to buy two exhausts, because I want to eventually get boost, I got bit by that bug with my previous SRT-4. LOL

the 3" will be fine with this motor... u'll lose a bit in tq but it's a Honda it already doesn't have tq... but u will gain sum hp up top...

the Si in the above video has 2 resonators on it... not sure if he has it on that video but i know when he was done he had the 3" w/2 resonators... it was still pretty loud...

if u had an SRT-4 and didn't have problems with it then u shouldn't ever have a problem with this one... the car literally sounds close to stock until u go WOT... then the beast wakes up...

The 3 inch piping will give you more gains than other exhaust like skunk2. But like what bear said you'll lose torque which is not a big deal because we already lack torque. But our cars (SI) likes to breath so you'll gain power if you're n/a unlike other motors.

Also, if you go n/a it's gonna be really loud. But if you're gonna go turbo it's gonna quiet the sound a bit but not that much. It's all about the sound wave and the turbo decreasing it and all that stuff.

Now what kinda sound should I be looking for. Is it going to be a really high pitch scream, or more of a lower pitch growl. The muffler I choose with my TM exhaust is their N1 style. I usually shift around 3k RPMs, so thats where the majority of the sound will be coming into play. But as with any other Si owner, when it comes time to play, then at that point I want people all around to hear me coming. LOL

i'd have to disagree... the k-series doesn't sound anything like a b-series... those are loud... even the B20...

they do have a deeper sound... at certain rpms it will sound like a bigger engine with the right exhaust...

i know what u were trying to get at... but i was just stating that these k-series motors sound way deeper than the older Honda motors... if u want to compare it to the 350Z i will... my friend had a Z and he even came to me once and said that the Si sounds like a mini 350Z...

Man, I know exactly what your talking about. I had a custom exhaust made, which consisted of a 3 inch dump tube I bought at Auto zone, then it was welded to shoot right in front of my rear driver side tire. Every time I revved it and let it off, all you heard was the turbo spooling. Theirs a Honda here in town, I think its a 99 Civic Si, and it to is turboed. As hes driving around the main drag, all you hear is the turbo spooling more so than his exhaust. Thats the goal I'm trying to reach LOL.

LOL... well you'll need a lot more than a greddy turbo to achieve that mister... but didnt you say you were going Turbo Mafia? Or was that the original poster... I forget... anyways... yea my SRT-4 was basically GT3076R w/ true 3" o2 housing, 3" downpipe and a 45 degree turn down after the downpipe (under center counsole) ... and thats it... neighbors and cops loved me
