Modded MAF + Injen CAI

Well guys I originally have the injen CAI in my car and it feels ok, but not to much difference vs the stock air box. Then I start following the xfactorwrx progress and start making some testing with the stock air box on my own. First I cut the maf housing from the air box and put a BLOX velocity stack+filter (BPi velocity stack knock off) with the stock intake tube. Low end got a lot better with some mid range gains, just like xfactorwrx prove.

Then I start modding the maf housing with my own ideas and I was able to feel a lot of improvement on the top end (I have no proof that I got it right but at least it feels better than before the modification) but heat soak was a big problem here in Puerto Rico, even with a custom ram air that take air from below the bumper. Also I was starting to think that the stock intake tube was a little bit crappy and top end was being affected (the crv tube that x’ uses could/should be better).

So I have the injen cai still laying around and I remember someone here saying "what if you put the modded maf in the injen cai" so I decide to take the chance and test it. The results simply were impressive. I HAVE NO DYNO GRAPHS and probably won't be getting them neither, but the car pulls harder than ever all across the power band with no hesitation or idle wandering or any other problem normally associated with the Injen CAI. I think is a great improvement on the stock Injen design and “feels” better on the top end than with the stock tube, modded maf and filter (short ram-type arrangement) I had before and I could guarantee no one will regret doing it.

I hope someone with the ability to dyno this will do it in the future and show the gains. I would at least verify the af ratio with my wideband sometime next week when I have some spare time and compare it to the injen without modification and vs the stock tube-filter on the maf short ram I earlier have (similar to x’ design but without the crv tube and my custom modded maf) Thanks X' to encourage us to make our own testing/developments!!!

Here are some pics:

I have the Injen laying around so cutting it wasn't a big deal for me. And honestly, the injen reduction on the maf "housing" is simply a piece of sh1t that was underdeveloped to simply try to get the maf read right and they fail miserably on it. Before this mod, the cars ALWAYS runs very rich, about 12.0-12.5:1 on almost all the power band until it reaches about 7700 when it get even worst and drop to mid 11. I know that now it is reading more accurately and don't have the 2.75" bottle neck on the middle of the pipe. Now it is a true full 3" CAI.

I already said it, someone please make a dyno before and after. Right now I don't have any dynos near of me, but I will try to make some time in the near future to test this against the stock air box in the dyno.

Thanks for supplying us with pictures that shows the public how what modifying the maf housing really means. +1 rep for you. However, I'm kinda disappointed there were no dynos. I think you would have been alot happier along with the community if you would have dyno'd.

On a sidenote; I think someone that gets a cel from their injen cai should try this and see if it remedies the problem.

nearest dyno facility it's about 2+ hours from here and I don't have to much spare time, but I want to know how much this mod will gain so I'll try to make some time in the coming weeks. Lets see what happens.

It's too bad you couldn't do one stock, then one with the injen and then one with the modified injen.

Well maybe it's running richer, but at least it runs great on the injen comparing vs the stock injen piece. Thanks anyway, I'm looking forward to see your pics

What's really funny is that my friend did the same thing X did with his 01 Civic SI. Only he did it about 4 or so years ago. I was showing him last night and he got a crack out of the 20-something page thread. He even used the foglight as the intake hole....

go figure....
