Talking Awakening the Beast

Hey guys,

I'm a new to the forum and as a quick introduction I drive a White 07 Si Coupe with the only mod being an HFP body kit. I'm also a pretty big noob when it comes to modding cars and the like (recently a couple of friends have gotten me into it).

Anyway, here's my deal. I'm soon to come across a grip of cash (don't worry not selling drugs!) and want to put it into my car. I've researched a whole bunch on-line and have looked through your guys' threads for the last couple weeks and have found a lot that would give me considerable gains, such as i/h/e etc. But I want something a little more...

So basically here's the question: If I gave you guys around $15,000 to spend on parts to make your dream SI, what would you do and what estimated horse power do you guys think you will be able to obtain without using N20?

I'm leaving out suspension/rims/body kits/etc. for now, just to focus on making our engines beefy. ^^ Please try to keep it realistic and PLEASE don't say take it and buy a better car! I've always been a fan of civics and perhaps always will be, so this is it for me!

Thanks for any info you guys can give me. I do appreciate it!

hard to say. what the companys advertise is way UNDER rated. So after the install you need a GOOD tuning.

With the products above I've seen cars over the 350whp mark. Do some searching and you'll find some numbers & dyno sheets to look at.

ummmm turbo AND race header? can't really do that dude...

i guess you could replace the greddy turbo manifold with an equal length one...

Personally I'm not a big fan of greddy turbo kits, better off piecing one together IMO..

if you check the skunk2 website and take a look at the Si they built they built an all motor at just over 250whp...now with the turbo and a good tune and your basic bolt-ons afterwards, don't forget that hondata is also going to release the k-pro soon as well...possibilities are endless, just do what you're comfortable with dude...me personally, greddy turbo and skunk2 EVERYTHING lol is the way i'd go...keep us updated with the build dude and if you got any extra toss it my way :)

If I had 15k, I wouldn't put it all into a car... I'd invest the money...
having said that -
Sounds to me like you are looking for power... Do you want turbo or NA? Either way, I'd find a shop near you with good reputation, tell them "I would like you to build me an engine that will make 300whp(or you pick the number, N/A or FI you decide), and I would like to daily drive the car (although for a DD, I think too much more than 300whp is pretty much useless)".
Personally, I'd get a K24 block, sleeve it, run some high CR piston, use the Z3 head and use that as a base for some good NA power....

If I were to go FI, I'd get a K24 block, sleeve it, run some low(er) CR pistons and use that as the base for good FI power....

i'd do the redshift supercharger stage 3(or maybe 4, but takes some more mods). Hytech race header and new exhaust.
I would do a tein suspension to keep the wheels to the pavement, get some light 18'' wheels like the Mugen's, 16lbs/each and some awesome summer tires. shortshifter of course and the base and shifter bushing kit. I'd prob upgrade the brakes too, but might wait until the OEM ones wear out.

Sell the Honda, get a 350Z ASAP!

If I were you I would sell the Honda (great resale value) and buy a new 350Z enthusiast edition. You may even have enough cash left over to get some Rays Engineering wheels.

Or get a new STI

I truly believe the heavy mods on the K20 will cut short its life, create reliability issues, destroy your clutch, trans and LSD. Oh yeah, and void your warranty.

Also, your kidding yourself if you think you can put reliably put 250 to 300 hp through a front wheel drive car (on the street). You need AWD or rear wheel drive.

just my opinion. no facts just opinion.

Enough said. Go read up on K's. Not to mention I know someone with a boosted Z, they weigh a lot. Spend 30k on a car, 8k on a turbo kit to run high 12's. NO THANKS.

EDIT - Oh yea also, you're kidding yourself if you think 300whp isn't streetable with FWD. I had a boosted H22 EG hatch pushing over 300whp and it was absolutely fine. Fast as hell an perfectly controllable.

comptech supercharger - $3600
ssr race header - $1200
short shifter / bushings - $120
j's racing titanium exhaust - $1200
lightweight rims w/ good tires
coilovers
front and rear adjustable camber
lightweight flyweel
upgraded clutch

^with these youll have a car that can actaully handle the performance of the superchager well, while a the same time have a reliable daily driver. also leaves you plenty of money for carbon fiber or whatever exterior mods you may have in mind.

if you're a noob at hooking up cars then i wouldn't recommend getting a turbo now.. For now i'd just say go with intake, headers, and exhaust. rims, and lower the car.

Yea, personally after having a few turbo cars. I'm gonna try supercharging next time. Simpler and more reliable FTW.

Hmm, so we're looking around 350whp for the k20z3? Another reason I started this thread was to see how much the k20 could put up. Another possible idea that I'm leaning toward (since I do live in the Phoenix area), is Hasports TSX K24a Engine-Swap...

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p...cvic_si_tuner/

$12,200 hence my previous 15k benchmark. It has a reported 550hp turbo'd w/ intercooler, .etc. Do you think this might be a good way to go? Or would it just explode on me? I want to know what my options are.

And ,as I said in my original post, that I don't want a faster car, just a faster civic!

^I like that! Just try to figure out what you want.

500HP is a LOT. Have you had a turbo car before? how do you feel about turbo lag?

Who is doing the work? MANY MANY questions here. I think the biggest being what is your goal? do you just want something stupid fast for the 1/4? do you wanna have usable power for corners?

I assume Hasport will do a lot of the work and of course I have a bunch of friends who have turbo'd cars that can help me. I'm not actually going to do anything for a couple months so I can learn more and get some ideas...

And yes I want a stupid fast car for the 1/4.

Six words.

Equal Half Shafts and LSD tranny.

I had no torque steer with my boosted h22 hatch. although 500 might be pushing it.
