Unplugged Racing Short Ram Intake
I finally finished up the making of the shortram intake for the LX/EX model. I had a few fitment problems in the beginning along with mounting the air sensor.
The kit comes preassembled - all you have to do is remove the stock intake system and replace it with mine. I chose to go with the K&N air and crankcase filter due to their good reputation and lifetime use. This weekend I will be spending a few hours each day testing out the intake system and finally writing a review of how it feels between stock and this.

I will be taking pics and posting my review this weekend.
I might snatch one up tonight if I get a chance. Basically its a 90 degree elbow with a filter on the end.. there isnt much room for piping due to constraints in the engine bay. If the sensor attachment dries up in an hour or two.. i'll be able to install it in the car and take it for a spin...but it says up to 6 hours to harden, 24 to cure. I wish I could get the parts cheaper, but the K&N filters are expensive.

I tried to attach the air sensor but it still hasnt cured, so i'll have to wait until tomorrow to work on it. It should at least be a little bit more solid by noon tomorrow. I think its going to feel great having a lot less restriction now.

But under normal driving, it does improve it.. Nothing probably noticeable. Maybe .5-1.0 mpg increase.

well I tried out the short ram.. its causing the engine to mis-fire and have a rough idle. i'm thinking the air is either coming in too quick for the sensor to read the air flow causing it to run very lean or the placement of the sensor is bad, which I can't control due to constraints in the engine bay, and its still causing it to run lean or sending a bad signal..
If i'm getting this problem.. you probably won't be seeing a short ram intake for the LX/EX models unless they can find a better spot to locate the air sensor than I did. I thought my spot would've been fine as its the same distance as where the factory was placed.. and even facing the same direction. If I could add additional piping before the air reaches the sensor.. i might luck out.. but it would involve relocating the battery as i'm right up against it.

i just got back from the deli n my car run normal after i removed the connection from the filter box n the resonator box... i cant notice anything in performance but i had the deep sound which is loud.. all in all i like it... but im still on the boarderline whether i keep it that way or not... im not sure if it will have a good or bad effect to my engine... arright ill post up a pic of what i did later when i get back... |

it won't do any harm.. your just removing the restriction. I'm not understanding whats happening here. I tried different lengths of pipe and different locations of mounting the sensor. I even went as far as adding a bend or two and the engine still doesn't like it. Yet, when I just mount the air sensor in the stock location and remove the lower half of the air box.. taking a chance i wont' suck up anything.. it still idles normally. I can't seem to find what's going on. I looked at the Fujita CAI and I even had the sensor located in the same spot.. still don't work. im clueless as of now.

ooo i see...
im just not sure bout the sensor it might just not reading the air flow coz the angle or it might be the sensor not mounted deep enough in the pipe... not sure tho... i really really hope that u can make this work out... i read some forums bout removing the (-) battery for 10 mins... so that the ECU resets n learn the new pattern of the air flow... u think thats true? |

Its funny how other systems are working when in theory, my setup is no different excep the length of pipe.

i think i'm going to buy a scanner and read what kind of codes its giving me when the CEL comes on. Its definitely a mis-fire, i can hear it from the exhaust. I invested over 200 bucks in this project.. i'm not going to give up yet..heh
