70mm skunk2 - my thoughts

Hey guys, I just got a 70mm skunk2 exhaust installed today and man that thing is loud. Its fun to rev and mess around with but I seriously cant picture me having that exhaust in the future. Its really hard to keep the car quiet, especially when you dont want to be noticed. And its also hard to listen to the radio because the exhaust drone over powers it, unless you blast it. Other thing i noticed is that it keeps me from punching the car and hitting vtec. Im scared to go past 5000rpms because I dont want to be that loud car everyone stares at like wtf. I figured out that this exhaust isnt for me. Its not my style. But on a brighter side, it sounds really aggressive.

Im going to try out the silencer tomorrow and see how that goes. But It dont like the way the silencer looks inside the muffler. But as of now im kind of wishing I picked a different exhaust. I may be selling this one soon, and getting a more quiet one. I'll give it a month and go from there. I still want to hear the greddy evo2 in person. Just giving my little review. Thanks

Yep, too loud, silencer makes it sound like crap....pretty much most peoples story, unless they wont admit it.

Thats what I thought before I sold it.

sorry to hear that doode. yeah I always thought Skunk2 was just too loud for street cars. If you want a quiet exhaust, most likely go with Greddy.

The skunk2 exhaust is not for everyone. Some people love it and some people don't. The heard the greddy evo2 in person and it sounds like/softer than stock. If you want and exhaust that is in the middle get vibrant.

Keep telling yourself that to justify the purchase , its highly debatable, and I have the comptech which I think is somewhere in the middle, with some drone on the highway.

What are you talking about justify the purchase? Its already been proven that the K-series gains the most power with a larger diameter exhaust. If the sound is too much then go ahead and throw that silencer in.

Yea i was looking at the Skunk2 but decided against it cuz of the volume... Now I'm debating between Comptech and Vibrant... Just can't seem to make up my mind :\

does the silencer make the skunk 70mm sound a lot quieter. if so im getting the skunk. i want the 70mm but its loud. vibrant makes a crackling noise in low rpms which sucks. unless anyone else has a nice vibrant video. havent looked at comptech yet. thought they went outta business?

just give up man, if you have no proof, no need to turn this thread into another debate whether you THINK and FEEL like it doesn't.

to the op, yes it is loud. when i have just the exhaust and no race header, i thought it was very managable. at highway cruise, i don't hear the drone cuz i'm bumping my ipod but isn't even all that loud when i'm not. that is assuming you have your windows up, if you have windows down and the stereo low, you could hear the drone. if you are looking for something more quiet, definately check out the evo2. i had that before the skunk2, and it was a great exhaust. barely noticable if you shift at 3-4k and don't go WOT or vtec all the time. in vtec it does get louder, but not even close to the skunk2.

I just put my skunk2 70mm on yesterday i love this thing so aggressive sounding yes it has a drone but its a drone i find very sexy and i am getting even more stares now. Take the exhuast find a bridge or tunnel then punch vtec under it then you will change your mind about it the exhuast is meant to give you the most flow possible no BS when they built this thing. It gives you a powerful feeling i love it i feel more pick up now like in 4th on the highway it just picks up so freely now i took 3 people for a ride last night and they were very impressed like this thing is a beast i would keep it.

You should hear it with the buddy club race header. I can't describe how much louder it is than just the exhaust.

To the OP.......I thought the same thing when I first installed it and drove around for a week. I was like shit........this thing is too damn loud, but now Ive gotten use to it.

Plus I mean you can keep the exhaust quite by not punching it and "granny shifting". Ive gone by tonnes of cops since Ive had mine and they dont even bat an eye. Even past some cops out and foot patrol and they didnt even give me a second look.

I agree that when the windows are open you hear the exhaust more, but with the windows up, I still play my stereo just @ level 8 and can hear my music just fine.

It's a challenge to do that when you get a race header though.
