DIY Quick Intake Mod

Please note, I have installed SRI and CAI on my cars before, please don't give me unneccesary sh*t for this. I don't feel like spending 200 bucks on a pipe thats gonna rob my car of throttle response, or give me imaginary hp.

Who this is for: people who do not want to remove their stock intake tubing, but at the same time want the bennifits of a SRI (better sound)

Why?: because SRI and removing the rubber hose on the intake suck air coming from right next to the engine. doing this will suck air from the bottom of the engine bay and from air rushing underneath the car (in theory?)

Results: better sound, but not quite as loud as a SRI or removing the rubber hose entirely.

All I did was remove the lower part of the rubber hose and prop it facing down towards the bottom of the engine bay. Many legend owners used to do similar mods to their intakes, thought I'd give it a try on my civic. I do not feel any loss in response and the car sounds much better, but definatly not as loud as having a metal SRI or just removing the rubber house entirely.

I'd like to see what other people think of this, it takes 5 seconds to do and will definatly improve the sound of your car.

The only thing is its pulling hot air in by taking that off but there is a sound improvent for sure.

Ya i know its pulling in warm air, but a lot of people here have been just removing that hose. Doing that pulls air from right next to the engine. SRIs have filters right next to the engine as well. This is aimed towards the bottom of the engine bay (notice how you can see the ground), and in theory, at high enough RPMs it should make enough suction to grab some of the cooler air from down there.

Oh and also, pulling that hose off entirely will get you a much better sound that doing this... trust me I tried.

I know not everyone here has an fg2, and I wasn't assuming that. I've just never seen the inside of the R18's engine bay.

thanks for answering my question.

that doesn't mean you lost power. after I put my hi-flow cat on, I definitely lost some of the vtec crossover "feel."

There is a difference in sound when you do it this way. If you take the entire tube off it will be louder and deeper. IMO this sounds better, and there is no loss of power. Maybe I'll make a video comparing this with taking the tubing entirely off.

someone should do a dyno run with and without the tube connected.

you're saying that you like the vtec crossover "feel?" I understand that. I think, however, that sacrificing that feel for even acceleration is the better deal.

the crossover in sound. the car felt the same. no better no worse. however i would like to see someone dyno with and without. i think thats the only way we will get an accurate reading if it does something.

hmm i think thats good but a better one would be to just move the hose from the top of the resonator if you get the chance to remove your bumper.
