Thumbs up Random Technology High Flow Cat. Review

Well I recieved my Random Technology High Flow Cat. from a local performance shop on friday, me and my uncle installed it on Saturday. I have been patently waiting to get this mod for a little while, and I recently paid off my intake so I bought it! Anyways, the quality was great, all the parts that were needed for the install were in the package.

Fitment:10/10 . The cat fits like a glove, not one problem at all.

Parts:10/10 . Everything that was needed for the install(lugs, bolts, gasket)was in the box, including a warrenty card.

Installation10/10 Like I said before the cat fits like a glove.

Problem: the thing that we had a problem with was the stock system. First off idk about others but none of the bolts wanted to move. We wound up having to use air tools. We got 4 of the 5 bolts off before the problem. The final bolt that was holding the cat on, one of the 3 that connect to the catback would not come off. It also happened to be the bolt in the hardest to reach spot. We tried for a good while to get the damn thing off, but after about 45 min, we had managed to do ablsolutly nothing. The bolt was either stripped, or my uncle said that the heat may have semi welded it. In the end we had to cut that P.O.S. off.

Sound:9/10 The sound did not change to much. The only performance mod that I have is an Injen CAI. The sound is deeper on start up, and at low RPMs. Throughout the whole RPMs the sound is a little deeper, but lower RPMs it is much more noticeable. There is also a ''swish sound when you apply 1/2 throttle, after that idk because the CAI drowns out the exhaust.

Performance 10/10 You can def. feel more power from 3500 up to redline. I dont gass the car any lower than 3000 RPM so I am not to sure of the power below that point. The revs climb faster through all RPMs, and throttle responce has improved.

Over all grade 9.8/10, I would def. recomend this mode to anybody not wanting to install a race header, I am really enjoying driving the car. Here are some pics, sorry I do not have a pic of it installed, I can get one tmrw if anybody wants one.

Here is what the stock lug looked like after we had to do surgery.

The SOB bolt next to one of the others that came off no problem.

Enjoy! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

EDIT!

The stock Cat weighs in at 15 pounds, and the Random Tech. weighs in at 6 pounds. Just incase anybody was interested in that.

Excelerate04, a member of 8th civic forums, sells R/T cats for either 370 or 360. those figures include shipping costs.

The catalytic converter should not throw any engine lights.

Anubis (another member of this site) says that the R/T cat is his favorite mod so far because of the sound.

I have one on the way, and I must say I am NOT looking forward to messing with those bolts. the three connecting the cat to the catback shouldn't be too bad- I just had the catback replaced. I'm more concerned with the ones connecting it to the exhaust header.

anyway, nice write up. glad you like your cat- I can't wait to get mine!

+1.. not sure if this is what happened to the OP, but I was stupid and ended up doing that. One of my bolts was impossible to get off, and I did the same thing to that bastard. After cutting, the cat went right in! I agree with the OP's review though. Very nice upgrade.

I paid 420$ at CNC motorsports in ontario. I know it is a little more than online, but I like to support the local shops. I actually thought ecelerates price of 380 was before shipping, but I guess not. Oh well. I will post a pic of it installed tommrow for you.

I would say about 45 min. to an hour including jacking it up. The sound did change, it is def. louder, but it is not catback loud. I really think if I had a catback the sound would have gotten a good bit louder.

Was it the top one that connects to the catback? The one next to the heatsheald? That was the one that I had trouble with.

it still passes emissions test in at least 49 states, and POSSIBLY passes emissions in california as well. I recently read in Super Street that a R/T cat for the RSX-S is 50 state emission legal. it was in the july issue, in the section where they talk about products of the month.

However, I'm sure it's not going to clean up the air exiting your car as well as the stock converter. You might even notice an increase in the number of three or more legged frogs in your area.

Great write up. I'm pretty sure this will eventually be beneficial for everyone. Eventually our stock catalytic converters will be junk and we'll have to replace it. The OEM one will cost an arm and a leg compared to this one.

420$ is an excellent local price, since the 380$ prob doesnt include shippng to canada, nor does it include taxes or duty. On top of that.. its USD$
it owuld prob come out to 450-500 to order online...!!!

420, again, is a very good canadian dollar price
