hmm...not 100% true. I love the sound, but the best part about it is how hard it pulls up top now. I also have a cat back and SRI this was by far my fav mod of the three with the most noticable difference IMO.

Haha indeed.. I was lying under the damn car for about an hour just trying different things. I wish my idea of 30 seconds with the saw had come just a tad bit earlier. I wanted to sell the cat, but I'm not sure how the buyers would react to a sawed off bolt.

The small section of pipe exiting the cat looks a bit skinny? do you think if it was wider it would be beneficial?

What kind of gains does this mod get you? Any Dynos?

I don't think anyone has done any baselines and installed dynos to see a difference, except the one person that dynoed it with the Comptech and some other bolt ons. I also thought the pipe looked a bit skinny exiting there. It made me want to get the AJP one that was modified to be I think 3" header side and 2.5" on the exhaust side.

Yup we did the exact same thing. The install took 2 and a half hours because of that damn thing.

Nope, sorry no dynos. From what I felt the car pulls a good bit harder from 3000 to redline, with a noticible plus in power in vtec. Thottle responce has also improved. Also keep in mind my catback is stock, I am only running a CAI.

I am pretty sure it is skinny so that it can connect to the stock exhuast. I think AJP makes one that is a 3 inch inlet and a 2.5 inch outlet. But it has to be used with a different catback than stock.

The pics that jimmychoi posted of the cat installed were better than mine, but I thought I would still throw them up. The steel def. changed color lol. Anyways here are the installed pics.

Where it connects to the header

Where it connects to the catback

Also
EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST

According to my scale the stock cat weighs in at 15 pounds and the Random Tech. weighs in at 6. Just in case anybody wanted to know.

mmm, I've seen this modified random tech cat. I'm going turbo in the future so skinny cat = not good. I need to get inspected in RI every 2 years so i need to either have a cat or make a program that will get me by. I don't mind loosing a few ponies with a highflow cat instead of straight pipe, even a test pipe would be good.

It gets smaller to also create sufficient back pressure. If it was to large on both sides you would lose the little tq we have.

I agree...I was presented with the option to buy the 3inch outlet version...but I am glad I did not....man...if I lose anymore backpressure...I won't have any torque left with the 70mm skunk..and SRI Man my car is deep and loud..

I have heard the Random Tech unit comes with a 2-3/4" inlet and a 2" outlet.

I am waiting for mine to arrive, and hopefully it will work well with my Tanabe Med. touring catback with 60mm piping.

I have the exact same exhaust, and my R/T cat is in the mail right now. From everything I have read, it replaces the stock catalytic converter exactly. this being the case, I can see no reason why it wouldn't fit our medallion, as it is made to bolt directly to the stock cat.
unless you beat me to the install, I'll let you know if it doesn't fit later this week!

edit: I just re-read what you wrote. I thought you were hoping it would FIT, but you're actually hoping it will work well with the tanabe exhaust.
I second that, although I see no reason that it won't work well. I love the tanabe catback, by the way. what do you think of yours?
