I need some help with an exhaust choice...

Hey everyone, its my first post on a new username but I have been reading for a while. I am in the SoCal, USC area (hence the name) for the record. First car was a Chevy Crapalier (ohv piece of crap), then an EJ20 WRX, now the Si which i am starting to love as much as the wrx.

Let me first of all say, yes I have searched and looked in many threads about exhausts and I am not looking for a (insert exhaust here) FTW opinion. I have narrowed it down to the Greddy Ti-C which I believe is 60mm and the Vibrant, which is 2 and a half, correct me if I am wrong.

My problem is that all of the sound clips are discouraging. I know that all of the exhausts sound different in person, but I can't seem to find the sound I would like. Granted, I am coming from a wrx that had a Borla exhaust that sounded like heaven and steel had beautiful smooth deep sounding babies. I just want to make sure that I am not going to end up with a can of burnt rice after dropping some hard earned money. I think I am looking for what everyone is looking for, a deep smooth tone that is lively sounding, but not like a jet aircraft engine.

So please, I need your help. Thanks in advance because has been winning me over quickly from my old boxer engine.

Judging from your needs and past experiences, I would probably recommend a non-canister setup to avoid any excessive raspy or "farting" noises. I'd probably recommend the following choices:

Vibrant
Apexi WS2
Tanabe
GReddy SP2
Comptech

I'd probably look into the Vibrant. It's got a nice deep tone to it and from what I've seen, nothing "ricey" per se. Otherwise, the WS2 seems to be promising as well. Tanabe is very quiet. It's quieter than the stock exhaust. The SP2 is also very quiet. The Comptech is going to be hard to come across.

As a suggestion, I would probably post in the So. Cal forum whether or not anyone could help you out and demonostrate what the exhaust sounds like in person. As you stated, the sound in the videos and real life differ greatly. I personally think you'd be making a wrong choice with a canister setup, if you did go that route.

Moved to Bolt Ons and All Motor.

Based on what I've read so far, I would recommend Vibrant or Tanabe. The Vibrant sounds good and looks almost stock. The Tanabe looks similar to stock as well and is quiter which is good if you're in CA, you won't attract any attention from 5-0.

Thanks for the help everyone, looks like from everyone's responses I'll probably be going with the vibrant when I get the cash. I'll check in with the socal forum to see if there is a meet where I can better sense of the sound I can expect.

+1 to Vibrant... Trust me I was just like you. The uneven header setup on the Boxer combined with a nice exhaust = PURE SEX. This as well as my old 4.6 Mustang Most 4 cylinder exhausts sound like ass to me no matter what. But I like some sound coming from my car. Got the Vibrant and it is DEEP. The clips really don't do it justice. Sounds great. Really getting this 4 cylinder to grow on me now. Also, my friend has the Skunk2 60mm and it sounds great as well. No rasp, very deep, decently loud, but not too loud. You can't go wrong with either, and this is coming from the last guy who would be liking 4 cylinder exhaust systems :)

there are plenty of honda exhaust choices that you can choose from. there is borla, magnaflow, flowmaster, etc.. it would really depend on your choice and the money that your willing to spend on one.. good luck.. just get the one which you think best for your ride.. :)

The Buddy Club sounds amazing, but it is very loud. I had it on my car for about a week and then sold it. Just could not take the volume.
