I know everyone gets tired of exhaust threads,but...

...is there any truth to the strait through, can type(Skunk2,Buddy Club, etc) having high end HP gains, but actually loose low end torque?I have actually read that the OEM style(SP2,Comptec,etc) have more back pressure, which helps low end.Kind of OT,but my dad had a Supertrap on a motorcycle, and he said when you take off discs to make it quiet that the bottom end improved. Thus because back pressure was increased.Anyone feel a loss in low end after installing, say a Skunk2 or BC?

i curious about this too, i don't want to lose any tq at the expence of getting more topend. heck, i would be happy by getting greater tq over topend horse. not that i don't want more topend. this is why i was wondering if just gettin the hi-flo cat or test pipe + a more free flowing muffler( type-r muffler or mugen axel-back) and just retaining the stock pipeing for backpressure would be better for street use???? maybe gain more of an equal tq/hp ratio even though less topend gain???

honestly guys, imo getting a catback and a testpipe again imo sound>actually feeling the performance gain, i have just a intake and catback and i could say it feels like it flows better but you cant actually notice all that much, its not like a diesel truck or a v8 where your goin to get great hp or trq gains, maybe someone else can explain it alil better

I just installed my Skunk2 70mm today with a Fujita SRI and I actually did notice a very minute loss on the low end but the actual gains overall are SO worth it. BTW that sum beach sounds absolutely sick.... I love it!!!

Most cars do lose some low end power and torque because aftermarket exhausts have bigger piping and less back pressure, especially for a N/A car. I have an extended Apex'i N1 to fit my Si Sedan and I think its pretty good for a catback. I don't feel it any lower in the lower end. Like someone up there said previously, power gains on a catback are not substantial, but the ones for Si are not too bad.

With a more straight through muffler and larger piping you may/will lose some low end TQ.

As the others have already said you will loose a small amount of low end torque with a Cai/intake and Exhaust mod. The cat back will not effect the overall performance that much but in the overall picture it still helps.
The biggest restriction is the Cat and replacing the stock shorty header with a Raceheader and test pipe will gain you the most HP. Up to 16 HP for just replacing it with a Raceheader. Now if you live in a state where they have inspections I wouldn't recommend it.

i would say if you want to see the biggest gains your goin to have to go with a

race header (at least a test pipe to remove tha cat)
catback
cai
and then hondata ecu reflash

IF you do not plan on getting the reflash then dont expect to see much gains with just the intake and catback.

when i got my exhaust and intake i really only did it for sound, because i knew with out the reflash to reallly wake things up, i knew i wasnt goin to put the exhaust and intake on and say wow its like a whole new car. to me its worth putting the money out for the catback, even if i lost a lil bit of low end trq cuz i wanted to gain the sound.

i'd like to see a dyno of two cars. one w/ intake, raceheader, reflash, and stock exhaust. and another w/i/h/e and reflash and the tq readings on both to see how much a difference it is???

I wonder if the smaller pipe exhaust(Meagan,Magnaflow) would be better if you want some sound, but want to keep torque?Call me a liar, but torque is what gives a car the get up and go.

yeah after reading this I'm still somewhat debating on whether to get the skunk2 with 60mm or 70mm piping

see that's what i mean what if you maintain the stock piping and get a test pipe and a mugen axel back or better flowing muffler. due to the stock piping maybe just maybe it would kepp or gain more tq through out the rpm band instead of most up top??? personally i am not as concerned with pure topend since the car is kinda setup this way already- my thought is kinda like how the hondata reflash improves our lower end power more than the topend, i want a setup that will improve upon the lower and midrange. not saying the current mods avail aren't great for performance. i just want a diffrnt setup for my preference.
