Random Technologies High Flow Cat

I'm wondering if anyone here has had any experience with Random Tech's high flow cat for the 2006 civic si. I want to know how it makes the car sound, how much it changes the sound, etc.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any NON race headers for the FG2 besides comptech and DC sports? Right now it's not exactly possible to get a comptech header, and I'm not particularly interested in a ceramic coated one.

thanks!

Welcome to the Ocho!™

Since there is more flow you will be hearing your exhaust more. Before the Cat I would hear alot of intake noise, now it seems to be balanced out more but def more exhaust note. Everything will be slightly louder and sound meaner.

The random tech cat has added more of a bass note to my exhaust sound . . . my friends all say its much louder as well. I havent noticed any major power gains . . . though I'm sure there are some . . . but to me the change in sound was worth the cost (I'm vain like that).

alright. thanks for all the answers. I'm going to assume that by sounds "meaner" you also mean that it doesn't sound more "ricey." Mean is okay with me, riced up is not.
And then the other question- does anyone know of a NON race header OTHER than DC sports ceramic or the comptech header? I really want a comptech header, but it's currently impossible to get a header from them because they almost went out of business....

thanks for all of your answers!

No answer to the RH question, but my RT cat on the stock exhaust didn't do a whole lot. Sound stayed the same pretty much, and a slight gain in the midrange.

Is your whole car stock or just the exhaust?

Well, if you listen to Nomar's video, I'm sure you'll agree it sounds pretty mean!

That is because you used to own a mustang, and your civic knows that

On another note the R/T cat has been my favorite mod to date (also have SRI and vibrant cat-back) it really opened it up in the higher RPMs. Made exhaust note louder and deeper too.

Personally, I wouldn't replace your shorty stock header with another shorty aftermarket header (aka Comptech) The gains will just not justify the expense. If you replace the header I would go with a Longtube/Raceheader design which will gain you up to 16HP. Vibrant is about to release their Raceheader and Raceheader with High Flow Cat combo. If you are not into a Big Hurry than I would wait until they are released.

Does anyone know if that vibrant header and high flow cat is leagal? I plan on getting the vibrant cat back shortly but was holding off on a header because I don't want to eliminate the cat completly.

A high flow cat will be legal, but not CARB legal. If you don't live in Cali don't worry about it.

Most states/provinces in North America have regulations in place that state you cannot remove or replace the OEM cat at all.

I'd say check your local regulations

What would you do if a cop pulled you over and did a quick visual inspection then?

The fines are in the thousands of dollars in Ontario.. just theorizing.

The shorty header from comptech actually loses 6-7hp from 6200-6700 but gains about 4hp at 8000. If you get this and the RT cat, you gain almost all of it back. Here is a dyno from another member with this combo.

Anyone have exp with Random Technology Cat?

It's about as legal as the RT Cat Actually removing the working stock cat is totally illegal but people do it anyways.

If it wasn't for visual inspections in the county in Nor Cal that i live in, I would go with the BCHR and Magnaflow HFC, but those dreams only go dancing through my head at night. I can get away with and RT cat and a good story for replacing it.

I appreciate everyone's input- I actually JUST ordered an RT cat from Excelerate. Once I found out that I could get one for 375 after shipping from him... the rest was history. I'm sure I'll love it. my wife? I'm not so sure she'll like it, she hated the SRI at first. but then, she doesn't drive it every day.
