If you don't want to stick with Honda Z1, Amsoil multicar ATF will work great. You can also go with any Dex III and Lubeguard black at the ratio on the box.

I'm going to go with Amsoil, since it's a much better fluid.

I would stick to standard Honda ATF-Z1 until your warranty is up. Everything I've read says there really ins't anything that is that much better than the Z1 fluid. A about 5-6 bucks a quart you can't really beat it either.

If you're not doing a flush, then what's the point of changing the fluid brand?? There's gonna be more than half that old fluid left inside the tranny (torque converter, oil passages, valve body.... tranny cooler, etc.) if you're just doing a drain & refill. I guess the total capacity of the ATF used in a complete overhaul is about 5 to 7 litres... at least that's how much I used when I flushed my 98 EK.

Just a thought. becuz that amount of Amsoil ATF is not cheeeeeeeep.

My experience with my past Honda auto trannies is this - - stick to the factory ATF Z1. Not cheap compared to Dexron, but cheap compared to synthetics. My friend owns a local independent tranny shop, and says to stay away from anything other than Z1...

The reason there are different ATF types isnt because of quality, or weight. It has to do with the operating heat range. Dex 3 has a different operating heat range and boiling point then Z1. Any ATF other than AUDI/PORSCHE yellow atf with a heat range that is the same as Honda Z1 or higher will work just fine.
