Question State inspection with CAI

I'm considering either the AEM or Injen CAI for my EX. My friend has a prelude SH and when he put his CAI on it, he couldn't pass inspection because supposedly they can't legally pass a car with an open air filter (he even had the CARB certification).

Has anyone else ran into this problem?

Also, this is my first post, so if I put it in the wrong forum, I apologize.

I don't see that a CALIFORNIA Air Resources Board cert is going to do you in Texas...is you profile location wrong?
And also, when I lived in TX, the inspection was a a real simple thing, maybe it's changed?

My profile location is correct. The reason I mentioned the CARB is because I thought that California had more strict regulations and that if it was certified in Cali then TX shouldn't be a problem.

I don't know when you left TX, but I do know that things have changed in the last 5 yrs or so. However, I don't know to what extent.

Just as well, we have too many cops and our roads really suck.

i don't see why they wouldn't pass it with the CARB certification. If they don't pass it at the shop you can take it to a smog inspector (I forget what the title is, but he can over ride a shops visual inspection) to get approved.

Well the easiest thing is to take the question to another shop, this one that's saying it could be wrong...

I could not imagine that. I guess I take for granted how easy I get off in Louisiana. I live between baton rouge and new orleans and you can have ANYTHING you want done to your vehicle. As long as your lights and horn work your good to go.

Thanks for all the help. I dug through the State Inspection regulations for TX and it clearly states that on vehicles newer than 1996, any open air filter element should pass visual inspection due the removal of something call a TAC (themostatic air cleaner).

The only reason a vehilce with an open air filter should fail an inspection would be related to emissions, etc.
