Large exhaust + medium noise level impossible?

So I am dumbfounded, I have an injen cai, ssr header being built, will be getting some ips cams and kpro when it is released, I think with those mods, I should have at least a 70mm exhaust, or even a 3 inch. It seems with a larger diameter though, it is impossible to retain a quiet sound. The hytech twinloop is only 2.5 inch, and I don't want to get a fat pipe and then stick a silencer in it.

Is there any hope for me?

With no cat any aftermarket exhaust might be to loud for you. I have the vibrant now (2.5 in), and i can't imagine how loud it would be without a cat.

You might want to consider sticking to 60mm or 2.5 in if you're concerned about noise. A larger pipe diameter will get a little bit of extra power on the very top end but you're going to lose a bit in the middle (at least from all of the graphs I've seen so far). So your peak HP will bump slightly but it's going to be noisy as hell.

For reference, sickyute had a 3in on his old coupe using an HKS muffler. I believe he still had a cat on there AND added a second resonator, and he was still complaining about how loud it was. Most people with the 70mm Skunk2 also note that it's a very loud system.

Food for thought.

I am going to run a high flow cat, so it should be somewhere in the middle.
Yeah, I had the skunk2 for awhile.

There is no reason for you to get an exhaust that large without boosting your car. Stick with a high quality 60mm.

there is a lot of dyno graphs that will prove that if you don't believe it. AJP ran a 3" without losing power and made a good amount up top too.

If you're concerned about noise, stick with a 2.5".

The only one available is the vibrant performance. I'd like to see if it actually is a 2.5 I.D. not O.D.

Edit* just realized the vibrant is actually a 2.5 inch outer diameter, however that would mate up to my ssr header perfectly.

We are currently working on producing a "mellow" 3 inch exhaust for the FG2 that will bolt to our 2.5" race downpipe. This will be for people, like myself, who want the flow and power w/o attracting too much attention. However, for people who want the stock catback or an aftermarket catback with the stock flange size, the downpipe will bolt to that as well.

We are going to dyno the 3 inch catback with our race downpipe, to see how power has increased across the rpm band. We have built many cars that have dyno'd lots of power and have had a good tone that is not loud. We'll keep you guys posted.

If you guys can follow through with that, with a tolerable noise level, let me know how to order.

I just called pro street. They said they could custom make something for me to bolt up to my skunkII. I gave them my name and number and they said they would call back with details. I'll keep you guys posted.

O.K. they never called back, but I found a solution anyway. I added another resonator. Magnaflow magnapack 2 1/2 in 2 1/2 out 24" long with a 18" body. Way less drone, deeper sound, still rips when you open it up, quiet when you want it to be. This was on a fa5 and the heat sheild in the stock location had to be bent a bit. Not sure if this would work on the sedan as I don't know how the exhaust looks but if you got 20 inches in the first stock resonator location it should work for the coupe. Volume wise it's idle is about like the evoII (my neighbor just got one) but when you open it up it louder, deeper and more agressive than the evo.
