Why get a shorty?

Is there really any point to getting a shorty header, other than saying that your header is not stock? Our car comes with a great header and if you want anything better you pretty much have to go for a race header. I've looked around and I don't think anybody sees any real differences in performance going from stock to aftermarket shorty. Anybody say something different? From whats available, I was about to go with comptech, looked like nothing but good product after product from them, judging from the forums. But, can't seem to do that anymore (if only I had placed my order a week or two earlier!).

Two questions

Is it really necessary to replace the header, even if going FI later on?

So... what else can we expect in the realm of good shorty's in the near future?

well if your goin the turbo way then the header will be a waste. but if your goin with a supercharger i would open up as much flow as i could. but the main help would be a race header yes.. bc i think the most gain i got from my dcrh was due to no cat.

What about running a shorty + test pipe or high flow cat...would this yeild the same as a race header or is my thought process completly wrong?

why would you run a shorty + test pipe over a RH?

btw, how close would a shorty + High Flow Cat be to a RH?

Oops, you're right lol. Only reason I'd see for running a shorty + test pipe would be for the ease of changing between a test pipe and a high flow cat. Test pipe for the track and high flow cat for daily driving.

Is there any gain difference between a high flow cat and a test pipe?

I don't have to worry about emissions here, thankfully.

i think goin shorty+high flow cat would be a lil less power than a race header but prob not to much.. if u dont have to worry ab gettin introuble for all the hydro carbons comin out ur exhaust then just go race header

There's a guy over on TOV that had an Injen CAI + Comptech cat-back exhaust. He then added the Comptech shorty header, and although he gained 2-3whp at the high end, he lost a few lb-ft of torque, especially in the low to mid range. He then added the Random high-flow cat and gained the torque back and then some, plus a couple of additional hp.

He said that if he were to do it all over again, he would have kept the header stock, and just have done the CAI, high-flow cat and cat-back exhaust.

Wouldn't a shorty header+high flow cat=more flex unlike a one peice race header so less chance of cracking?
