Shorty header install

Hi everybody.
I know this is my inexperience talking, but I was wondering what would be involved in installation of a shorty header. If I get one I'll have it professionally installed, but I'm curious as to whether they access and remove the old header from below the underside of the car or from above. Would they have to temporarily remove my supercharger in the process? How many hours of labor should it take? If this is a huge project then I'll probably put it on hold for awhile. I want to stay carb legal, so the upcoming race header is out, but if this shorty will produce decent gains on the s/c setup and won't be a huge headache, then i might not be able to resist...
Thanks,
Chris

They remove it thru the bottom of the car. first they have to remove the cat. then i dont remember about the heatshield, whether that stays on or not. then the header itself. the header is tricky cuz you have to flip it around, then turn it to get it out.

hope that helps

The only shorty header out is the one comptech just released. Good thing about shorty headers are that they are two piece, the manifold, and your cat which will make the install alot easier then a race header consisting of both pieces connected together.

You can do it on jack stands as long as you can fit under.

You might check with a Honda tech to get the torque specs for the header. I'm assuming that they do need to be torqued. Also get the order in which you should torque the header bolts. Its usually from the middle out.

no they do not come out through the bottom of the car...
i have the shop manual...

to remove the header u so as if u were replacing ur valve cover....

1. remove the cowling below the windscreen
2. remove the metal pannel
3. i think u need to remove a hose or 2... can't remember which but it's easy
4. unbolt the header from engine and cat
5. remove it ... it either comes out from the top or side or diagonally..

if u were to remove it from the bottom u'd have to remove brackets and drop the subframe a bit and a whole bunch of crap...

so yeah... it's not too easy but it's not that difficult either.

when putting in the dcrh there was no way the stock header was coming out through the top unless you took off the valve cover then it might fit. you can get the stock manifold out from the bottom but it will only come out one way and it's a tight fit at that.

BS...
that's cuz yall didn't know what to do...
3 DC race headers installed... all stock headers were removed from the top without the removal of the valve cover... and it's a lot easier when u don't have the stock intake comes out from the side then.

i guess i'm wrong and so is the honda manual...

it will come out from the side if you take off the stock intake, but still don't see how it could possibly come out from the top, not arguing with you that it won't but trust me i tried and i saw no way it was coming out from the top. not saying hondas instructions are wrong either but dc install instructions say to take it out from the bottom. No you don't have to drop the subframe either, it does come out just a tight fit.

The stock header can be removed from the bottom although it is much easier to just remove the airbox and pull it out from the side from above as others have mentioned.

So is there like a final verdict on how to do this? Top, bottom, side? I guess its been done both ways . And is it definitely possible to do in your garage with a jack and jackstands by a couple of slightly less than professional guys as opposed to taking it to a shop? I KNOW!! A DIY with pics!!! Who wants to show us once and for all?

Final Verdict: pay for someone else to install the header.

I would trust Acura/Honda techs with getting the header out and the new on and torqued to spec over my own guesstimations.

But would they even touch an aftermarket car part?
