FlyWheel Upgrade

I really want to upgrade to an ACT Prolite flywheel in my Si, but I need to know if I can change the flywheel with out changing the clutch. I've heard that it will not cause any problems to change just the flywheel, but then I have also heard that due to the design of the stock flywheel, the clutch and flywheel must be changed together. Can anybody clarify this issue please?

i know im not answering your question but why would u want to change the flywheel without changing the clutch? i dont see the logic in choosing to change just the flywheel.

That is like changing your timming belt without touching the belt tensioner and water pump.

Install both things (flywheel, clutch) you will save a lot on labor fees and time. Unless that your doing it by yourself but I recommend (ex auto part advisor) changing both things since you have to remove the clutch in order to access the flywheel, that is the reason of why people are telling you this.

Do the clutch and flywheel at the same time.

Also, ACT doesn't seem to be a good brand for K series transmissions. Many people have had trouble with them.

I had a very good experience with Clutch Masters kits, I never hear bad things about them. But unfortunately they don't have a kit for our cars.

its the same transmission assembly as all the rsx-s except it has the countershaft driven speed sensor. the clutch kits for the rsx-s work just fine. Nox has a ACT flywheel and clutch in his car. as well as we carry our own flywheel as well as clutch kits to support our products.

Exedy make the oem clutches for your car. unfortunately the dont hold any real power unless you invest in a hyper single or twin plate. the averarge owner would like it just fine. a turbo fg2 would benefit more from a different brand clutch.

If you change out the flywheel you cant use your stock pressure plate i dont think so i would recomend changing the clutch disk too, buy an assembly

Try this out

http://www.exedyusa.com/race/car_make_search.asp

Exedy Lightweight Racing Flywheel

Product Image May Not Be Vehicle Specific
Part Number: HF02
EXEDY Racing Flywheels are made from solid one piece billet chromoly steel forgings. They are specifically designed to reduce weight and inertia for better engine response.
Most incorporate special design features to enhance air flow to improve the cooling of the clutch. The ring gear teeth are milled onto the flywheel unlike an aluminum flywheel where the ring gear is pressed onto the flywheel and have the possibility of separating from the flywheel.

no prices tho

Hello... Any feedback on clutch master clutches?

I understand the flywheel is not out yet for the 1.8L version...

I have a clutchmasters stage 3 on my 1997 Maxima 3.5L (segmented kevlar with a 2400lb pressure plate) on a proto 6.8Lb flywheel. I love that clutch to death! I would definitely do clutchmasters when I put my Toda Flywheel on my car. The only thing is I don't want a pressure plate that heavy on my Civic. It's a daily driver and a pressure plate that heavy will give you a workout.

You might want to look into Fidanza as well. They have alot of cutting edge clutches and flywheels for all different power applications. They can provide the right set up from street to strip and everything in between.
