Installed Injen SP1577 SRI today...

Yes, this is another story about a man who set out to install an Injen SRI in his Si, and all his tales and every bit of BMW (Bitch, Moan and whining) that accompanies it.
The polished tube and filter were all top shelf stuff, with a really nice polished shine on the intake tube. Everything came with the kit, including instructions that looked like they were photocopied a million times, grainy to the point of uselessness. At least the text was readable.

First ahh sh*t came when installing the throttle body coolant line. They tell you that you are to reuse the stock clamp. Well, B#llsh*t on that! The stock clamps were way too loose for the new hose. Trip to the auto parts store for two small speed clamps, half an hour later, coolant hose installed.
Swapped out the MAF sensor to the new tube, no problem.
Installed the rubber isolator mount, no problem.
Installed filter element onto the end of the intake tube, no problem.
Now comes the good part. THE RUBBER ELBOW HAS A INNER DIAMETER WAY LARGER THAN THE THROTTLE BODY! (yes other members, you were not alone on this). Fortunately, the opposite end of the elbow fits real good to the intake tube BUT THE ANGLE OF THE ELBOW IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT IT SHOULD BE (are you listening Injen???)
[Enter wife into scene] "what's ya doing baby?". I bite my lip and grunt some unintelligent response.
It is now pissed-off time in the garage. After 15 minutes of pushing, pulling, twisting, loosening, tightening clamps, I got it all wrenched down and was somewhat happy with the final fit and position of everything.
Connected the wire harness to the MAF sensor and started her up. No problems, smooth idle and no whistling from anywhere.

Cut to the test drive:
Sound: Pretty much same as before EXCEPT from 5k and up. At rev's above 5k it sounded great. Very aggressive (smile finally enters face).
CEL: None (yet)
Looks: A+

Pics of the final install...

================================================== ========

So my friends, another mod completed, more stock engine parts to add to the attic (still have Integra junk up there).
After it's all said and done, it was worth the money and aggrevation. Now I'm glad I didn't go with the CAI, can't imagine the pissed-off-ness I would have been at with that monster!!!
Bill.

Makes me glad I used a K&N kit, then. Most frustrating part of the whole install was taking the factory airbox out. Everything else bolted up better than I could have even imagined.

Hey man it looks like the elbow on your intake is on backwards.

You should be able to see the little INJEN name on the elbow.

Look at mine you will understand what i'm talking about.

also if you want to make it easier for you to adjust the elbow and the intake you and take the elbow off and on the inside of the elbow you would see little groves. If you want (this is what I did) you can trim the inside so you can slide the elbow up or down the intake more to adjust to your liking. I found this to work out great.

Also, you can have some on hold the elbow in place on the throttle body while you tighten the elbow.

Let me know if you need anything else bud. Nice intake btw.

Now that you had me thinking, I came home from work today and pulled the rubber elbow back off. According to the directions from Injen, the 2-7/8" dia. end goes towards the throttle body. I measured both ends, one being 2-7/8" and the other 3". When the 2-7/8" end is attached to the throttle body, this puts the Injen logo on the bottom as I had it. Looks like you may have yours on backwards. Stupid for them to put the logo on the side that you can't see, but that is the way it is.
As a side note, fitting the rubber elbow back on was much easier after I applied a thin film of soapy water inside both ends and ran the intake tube down past the rubber bead on the inside. The soapy water film allowed the elbow to turn and slide real easy, allowing for a better fit.
Another tip for anyone installing these things.
Bill.
