Lightbulb Performance Downpipe

http://www.corsportusa.com/store/cat...oducts_id=1187

Corsport has this downpipe for our r18's. How will this benefit our cars? Has anybody already got one? And if so what is your opinion of this product?

i've been debating on this product for the longest time and can't make up my mind whether or not to get it. i've read a review either on fgcoupe or hondatech(can't remember) that there wasn't much if any, gains from this piece. its cheap enough to buy but there are other things i could get at this price.

It's actually manufactured by Megan Racing. There's been a big thread on this, but we're not totally sure how this will benefit our cars.

Just increases the pipe size by .25 of an inch. If there are any gains at all it would be 1-2hp at the most.

Installing this also means having to install the entire catback exhaust since the stock exhaust pipe will cause a constriction to the higher flow.

Yup. Which means installing the Magnaflow because there is no other option for the R18 at this point. Skunk2 seems to be the only vendor other than Fujitsubo that has or is actively working towards an LX/EX catback. All of the others are just spewing lip service.

No, the increase in sound comes from the aftermarket resonator/ muffler aka silencer combo. The down pipe is .... just a down pipe.

R18
Exhaust manifold -> cat converter -> down pipe -> catback exhaust with resonator + muffler

why would you need a down pipe if you buy a catback for the R18. does anyone make or in the process of making a true catback. meaning one piece right from the cat?

Exhaust manifold -> cat converter -> -> catback exhaust with resonator + muffler

For the majority of cars yes. But the r18 is very special in that it doesn't have a true exhaust manifold, as it's integrated into the head. Therefore this puts the catalytic converter right where the exhaust manifold would go. Since the exhaust piping system is now missing some length, the down pipe gives the needed length of a regular exhaust system. Sorry if this is confusing

When I installed the Fujitsubo catback, it does not go all the way up to the cat. It has to be connected to a down pipe that is connected to the cat.

Soooo...if I'm reading this right, the addition of the Megan downpipe would make the length of the exhaust system needed for the LX/EX the same length as for the Si. IF that is the case, then theoretically an R18 owner should be able to add the Megan and then go out and buy the Si catback of their choice (Tanabe, GReddy, etc.)

Or am I totally missing the boat here?

the megan downpipe is a direct replacement for the stock downpipe. by installing this you would gain a bigger diameter pipe and still get connected to the rest of the stock exhuast. i guess the one benefit of this piece is that it will relieve the bottleneck inside the cat and allow more exhaust gas to flow freely. hmmm

Geez what do you guys need, a picture?

I happen to have found one

The Megan Racing one replaces Part#1.

Oh yea the pipes will be just like stock except for the .25inch increase in the megan one. You will not be able to add the Si exhaust, the pipes are the same. Just think of the #1 pipe in the pic above with a .25inch increase.
