DC Race Header

I really want to get DC race header for my car, but I don't want it to fail emmissions. i know the web site says emmissions legal, but I"m not sure I trust them. Anybody out there have race headers and know for sure?? Also I want to get a Magnaflow Cat Back Exhaust. Anyone know or heard if its a good system or not???

DC header is not worth it, stock manifold is designed to be high quality and you don't have to worry about failing emmisions.

Shorty headers are street legal, because they keep the cat. Race headers, however, eliminate the cat, and therefore are not street legal.

You will not pass emissions with a race header unless you know somebody that can get you through. Since your next question may be re: a CEL, there are ways to prevent it like the defouler trick. Search for that for more info.

Also, people have been having problems with DC products. The exhaust gets cracks in the weld, and the race header's flex pipe breaks in some way, not exactly sure. You'll probably want to either invest in a dif company's product.

i dont know how you could say the DC header isnt worth it... I had a huge noticeable difference in torque. I gained 22 hp 19 tq from the race header and full dc exhaust. No it wont pass emissions.. But most states have a 3 or 4 year exemption on new cars... And it takes about 2 hours to swap out when you have the tools. So when you go for emissions swap back in the stock setup.

I used the defouler trick for 5 months... no cel.

never had a problem with the flex pipe cracking... I have only seen one person who actually had a problem.

Been lurking here for a few weeks, waiting on my '07 NBP Si to arrive. I've heard nothing but negative feedback on the DC race header. I'm going to start with suspension, but next will be I/H/E.

The 22hp/19tq sounds respectable. Conrad, I assume that you dyno'd before adding the header and exhaust and that they were the only thing added between the dyno runs. Is that correct?

Right now our only option seems to be the DC headers. Is the factory header so good that no one is bothering to create after market ones? It seems that a header would be one of the simpler products to produce.

I really wish there was at least one other header to compare the DC to.

XiliX,

still waiting on my '07

As stated, you can just remove the header and put the stock parts back on when you go back for emissions testing. You'd be totally insane to even attempt to run an e-test with no cat.

Really? Maybe you have a newer one or that person was just unlucky. Might have to rethink my mod path now... thx for the info.

I'm so glad that I live in Oklahoma. They dropped all vehicle inspections a couple of years ago, and then never did emission tests any way. I'll definately get rid of my cat when I get to the exhaust system. I'm just waiting on some other products to compare the stock and DC header to.

I believe the DCRH problem was fixed late June and a new batch was produced. I have it on my car and have had zero problems with it.

Comptech is scheduled to have a header any time now. Comptech isn't necessarily known to give the most gains, but their quality is 10/10.

Agreed. I put mine in in late September and have not had any issues. More than anything I am impressed with the sound of it. I pulled up at a stop light in the left turn lane and a mustang v6 was in the right turn lane. He revved it like he was cool and his headers sounded like an old lady clearing the phlem out of her throat. Then I hit it and it sounded deep and mean like she wanted more gas. The exhaust note is sick on the full DCRH set up. Power is nice too, but just the beginning of my mods.

Agreed, love the way it sounds, don't even think i'm gonna get an aftermarket exhaust, it's got a nice tone to it with the stock exhaust and my k&n short ram.

I hear you. Although that was not as bad as getting the new pipe in. A friend and I fumbled around trying to find the part that we needed to take out that would give us the clearance. Turned out it was that stupid black bracket. Once that was out, we barely had enough room with the jacks to get the header in. Overall though, everything went well and fit pretty darn nice too.
