What do you guys think about this Typhoon™ Air Intake System from K&N? And those who have it already is it worth the purchase and why? The cheapest I found it for was $222.95 with free shipping at the web site below. The specs are listed below for those who are interested. Thanks for all those who reply! You guys have a good day! :)
http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...A1915A0A0.aspx Built for performance and show, the Typhoon™ Air Intake System is a free-flowing mandrel-bent aluminum tube induction system designed to fit many sport compact performance vehicles. Typhoon intakes come in one of three designs; cold air intakes (CA), short ram intakes (SR), or complete cold air (CCA) intakes which can be configured as either a cold air intake or a short ram intake. Some Typhoon's have high quality finish options including polished aluminum (part ends with TP), powder coated blue (part ends in TB), powder coated red (part ends in TR), and powder coated silver (ends in TS) among others. K&N intake systems replace your vehicle's restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing. K&N intakes are designed to dramatically reduce intake restriction allowing more air flow to your engine. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine's RPM range. ya i thought about this a lot but decided to go with the k&n drop-in. I have low enough <3k rpm torque as it is, don't need less (for those rare gas saving moods). My best guess is that the HP gain is with the hood open, I wonder what (if any) gains the car would have under normal operating conditions. I would think any SRI would suck in much hotter air than the stock intake which grabs air from the fender and is isolated from the engine's heat.

I'm happy with it... but then again it's fall now, and the air is always cool... in the middle of summer I could definately notice some heatsoak if I was running around town and alot of stop and go traffic. I did powdercoat mine black (vs. the polished finish it had) and it cut down on heatsoak a bit, I can actually hold my hands and touch the pipe even after an hour of driving... the stock K&N I could NEVER do that, polish finish got HOT!
anyhow, I'm happy with it for now... last weekend we got 7 inches of rain in 24 hours, and it served as a perfect reminder of why I won't go back to CAI like I had on my RSX.... for the area I live in, flash floods are common occurance and this past weekend was scary when I couldn't get home without driving through areas of standing water... I'm sticking with SR until Comptech releases their Icebox. |

only when you get on it, if I accelerate normal (easy/average on the throttle, shifting at 3,500 or so), it's pretty silent... you'll hear the sound of air (like a very faint whistle) if you have the windows up, and music off, as the filter sits all the way to the back almost to the firewall. But if you go to give it moderate to full throttle that baby will growl, and it is NICE! So to answer your question, the noise is controllable, quiet under normal conditions, and growls under heavy acceleration.

I have been going back and fourth in my mind between the Injen and the KN. I like the KN for the shield/fit. I like the Injen for the dry filter. I know I will prob end up with the KN.
Note: The KN Dyno charts show less whp loss <3k RPM then the others. http://www.iorealm.com/reference/civicsi |

I don't have any pictures of it installed and on the car uploaded. However I can take some this weekend. I do have pics of before and after the powedercoating. Here they are, from polished silver to a gloss black. Pics don't do it justice, looks much better in person and under the hood. Looks better and rejects heat (pipe is cool to the touch after hours of driving!)

I don't know what this means if it's working to reject heat, or if it's insulating heat (like the pipe below the paint could still be hot?).... like I said, I can't say for sure. all I know is I used to not be able to touch it, and now it's not a problem, ever. it doesn't get hot to the touch. |
