Cut-out fog light opening for CAI?
Hey guys I have an Injen CAI on my Si. I have been thinking about cutting out the OEM fog light area for my CAI to breathe...
But I'm afraid of water directly hitting/getting into the filer on a rainy day. And rocks going though the hole and hitting the filter too. Could I put a tough wire mesh in the fog light hole to keep rocks out? But what about water directly on the filter? Thanks, -J |

Well they both sound like good ideas ... but if you want to cut the fog light hole then i have your answer .. to protect it from rocks i would go with the mesh covering the hole and to protect the filter from water you could get the injen filter hydro shield ...
http://www.optionsauto.com/injen/products.asp?dept=5649 But if the filter is submerged under water i dont think anything can protect against that ...

I dont think that you will gain something by cutting that it will breathe the same air with the same temperature.
A quick cheap fix for the Injen Cai rubber elbow that comes in contact with upper radiator hose is a 3 x 3 x 2 inches piece of foam. I put it between the hose and the elbow. And now after a long trip I touch that rubber elbow and is a lot colder. Last edited by Shark Tek; 08-27-2006 at 04:25 PM. |

Yeah I noticed that the radiator hose touches the elbow. I was going to wrap the hose with an insulation tape and then do the same with the rest of the CAI tube. Hoping this will lower the intake air temp some what... I have an ECU reader (scangaugeII) and right now my intake air temps are around 112 degrees F on an 75 degree day. |

Ok guys I wrapped the whole CAI with this stuff:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku And it seems that the Air Intake temps went down about 10-20 degrees F. The out side temp was around 75 today, and the Intake temps was always around 85... Before the Intake temp would have been around 95-100... Here's a pic of the wrapped CAI: ![]() But I ran into a big problem after driving around for a couple hours today. The heat wrap on the coolant hose and on the rubber 90 degree intake coupler started to melt off! The adhesive on the tape became really soft and the tape started to just fall off... However the rest of the tape on the tube stayed in place just fine... Hmm, I want to do something to keep the coolant hose from touching the intake. |
