Post Everything Oil: All you'll ever wanna know

Tybeedon, sent me a link to the S2KI forum where he is also a member . In the thread was everything anyone may ever need to know about oil. Tranny oil, differential oil, engine oil and so on. He felt it would be a great thread to Sticky and I have to agree, it is. So my hats off to Tybeedon for a great call and to Xviper and Road Rage of www.s2ki.com since they did all of the research and it was originally their thread. I have copied the thread exactly as it was originally posted by xviper. Nothing has been changed.

The link can be found at http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=195574

Quote:
Road Rage and I (RR did most of the work) decided it was a good idea to "sticky" a thread which contains links to all the really valuable information about oil.

I invite anyone to add links to threads that contain such information using this same format as follows. (And I shall "copy/paste" it in this first post for convenience.)

All fluids in general. discussion of engine, brake, clutch, diff, tranny, etc, fluids:

Even after years of this info being out there, some folks are still getting gooned with regards to Honda supplying the WRONG DIFF FLUID! This is important enough that I thought it worthy to put up here. Take a look at these and BE CAREFUL! .....

About "few links not working"...

That's correct. This information has some age on it in parts and needs to be edited. This should happen in due course, but because the list is fairly exhaustive it can't be done overnight. Remember, 8th Civic is the "borrower" here and the recipients of a LOT of solid effort on the part of the good folks at S2ki. I'll do what I can from this end on updates and mods.

Thanks for picking up on the need for updates!

Oil Test

One observation about amsoil,
amsoil series 2000 5-30 runs high in viscosity range. I have
confirmed this in my own oil analysis test. I don't think
its appropriate for our 5-20 motor, except southern climates can probably
run it ok in the summer.

I got an email from amsoil, a 0-20 series 2000 is in development.
I will have to run amsoil XL7500 0-20 for now.

This is a long term test that is very interesting, nothing like this
exists anywhere else.

I think this is keypoint of the analysis.

Wear metals at Miles 9000
____________Mobil 1______Amsoil
Iron___________38_________17
Copper________124_________69
Lead__________16__________12

Another is that if running
extended drain like 10k miles, a filter change at 5 k miles will
drop the wear metals.

humm... I disagree, the addative are very simliar and the overall addative packages are almost the same and delivor the same properties. Infact in dino oils, generally the addative package outlast the base stock oil.

All the links with "..." in them that I've tried do not work.
Eg:
In the "Changing from Synthetic oil to Regular" links, http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showth...hreadid=192849 should actually be S2000 Forums -> Changing from Synthetic oil to Regular .

Otherwise, amazing source of info, and thank you very much for posting it :-)

Al

EDIT: When I change the URL to the correct one, it seems to take its title, so hopefully you know how to look it up from the link :-)
