USDM vs JDM Header...

Hi guys...

i'm in the market for a RH.
i live in socal where i heard we need cat or we can get ticket.

as you guys now, all aftermarket 4-2-1 header for USDM car will remove the cat.
(Header - cat back exhaust)

however, for FD2 CTR, you can install an aftermarket header without removing the cat.
(Header - cat - cat back exhaust)

here is the pics of the mugen rr set up.

my questions are,
is it possible to install JDM 4-2-1 header + JDM cat + USDM exhaust in our car?
would it be legal if i use JDM cat?

how nice to have the performance and stay legal...

i really appreciate your comments guys...
thanks...

well... the toda header and exhaust(built for the jdm ctr) are being sold as a kit for the fa5, due to the fact that the header is a different length than our stock one with the cat, and the only thing different would be the hangers on the exhaust....
so id think jdm header, jdm cat, and jdm exhaust would work with new hangers welded on the exhaust?..

I was thinking about the fd2 header. You'll need possibly cut the mid-pipe along with an custom length cat. I stopped thinking about it when I was quoted $1300 for it...

I was hoping it would be around $400 like jdm 4-1 98 spec ITR header.

replacing the cat with a JDM cat is as illegal as not having one.
in CA, its stock, comptech shorty, or bust.

basically, anything that has to do with a cat that is not OEM or does not meet the same specs as the OEM, is illegal.

well, i dont know the truth about that.
but if you go to magnaflow's website it says that it is 49state legal.
anyway, i just want to minimize the risk.

Evan is absolutely correct. The jdm fd2R has a cat of a diffrent length than our fa5. So even if you were able to source an full jdm exhaust system it wouldn't work unless you fab up some all new hangers from front to back under the car. Depending on you it my not be worth the expense.

Depends on what product magnaflow is selling. Any "race" header is illegal in pretty much all states.

In California with any OBDII car you can't mess with the cat. So even if you have a high flow cat it's still illegal so I think you might as well just go catless.
