Diff between CAI and SRI?

Sorry if this has been asked before but whats the difference between the two? It seems as though CAI is the most popular and has the best gains so then why do people still have SRI's

Not exactly the best description, but here goes:

CAI is short for cold air induction. The tube used for cold air induction is the cold air intake. People use the two terms interchangably. Cold air intake usually refers to longer tube of the two intakes, though a SRI (short ram intake) is another form of a cold air intake. The intake usually snakes through to the front air dam or bottom of the engine bay where "cold" air is (not affected by engine heat).

SRI is short for short ram intake. Sometimes people call it short ram induction, following the interchanging usage of CAI (induction/intake). It's basically the shorter tube of the two intakes. The opening of the intake usually is in the engine bay.

Cold air intakes are bad news if you live in a flood-prone area since water might get sucked up the tube and seize your engine. The remedy would be to use a short ram intake. Another difference is in the price. SRIs are usually the cheaper option, since there's less raw materials and less work involved in the manufacturing process.

I think a good reason people have SRI's are the price. CAI are more expensive gives better gains, which supports the saying "you get what you pay for."

Also I am with "Phresh" on the sound. I've found that a SRI sounds more aggressive.

the price really isn't all that different.. i kno the injen cai vs sri is like $30 diff... i think the main reasons ppl still choose sri's are: no risk of sucking up water, easier installation, louder, and i've heard some say that there is better throttle response with the the sri..

or in my case i ordered the cai and got the sri... tried it out.. and i love it

Question

Greetings.

I was wondering if anyone (but more specifically, Canadians, since our snowfalls are heavier) has every had any hydro locking problems with a CAI in our winters? As mentioned, I would prefer looking at getting a CAI due to increased performance but if there's a big risk of snow causing problems, I might consider an SRI instead.

Thanks in advance.
