cutting shift knob?

i think im gonna shorten my shift stick.... maybe like an inch and a half.... it is angled so iit will move the knob over to the right about half an inch but thats ok cuz if you look at it from the back seat with it in nuetral its over to the left anyways... adn ive already looked at everything and it can be done its just taking it out cutting it then welding back togather... just waiting for my auger shift boot and new knob to come in so i have an excuse to take it out....

so whats your opion on it?...

you can be honest... it will look dumb but it does serve a purpose.... its like sifting with the nut at the bottom of knob except that will be the new top of the knob....

You're really not fixing anything by just shortening the shift arm. You may actually hinder the amount of leverage you have to shift gears with. If you're looking to shorten the actual throw between gears then just by a SS. I'm running the Mugen QS & it feels sooo much better than the OEM assembly.

You can just get a counter-sunk shift knob, and skip over the whole cutting thing altogether.

if you shorten the shifter itself, you will throw off the leverage, and then weld it back together which means weaker?

i wouldnt do it

There is a limit on some things & IMHO you may being crossing that line.

thats a pretty dumb idea.. if you already have the SS how do u need it any shorter? just get a diff knob that screws down farther.. i got the spoon Ti and it sets almost an inch lower than stock.. that alone shortend the throw.. i only did the tranny and base bushings.. the throw is short enough it feels the same as my old JDM GSR Ek with s skunk2 shifter/knob an bushings... any shorter and its just pointless.. your just going to damage stuff

I miss my Spoon Ti. Too bad they don't make it in ball-shape.

IMHO the loss in leverage is not worth it.

I'm using the ARC right now. The Spoon Ti is like less than 40 grams. Even the ARC is something like 130g or something. The awesome thing about the Spoon is it's VERY light, which I prefer to heavier shift knobs.

Yes I am. Tried out plenty of them, and am currently using an ARC shift knob.

Doesn't a short shifter decrease leverage as well?
