K&N drop in filter and $2.15 STP gas treatment

I was just shocked and outraged that an 1/8 of my gas tank was gone after only 44 miles that my 2006 Honda Civic EX MT sedan. This wasn't normal so what am I to do? Ahh...Yes, troubleshoot for this cause and then find a reasonable solution.

troubleshoot list:

Check gas cap to ensure that the gas cap is sealed. Making sure that I am not losing additional evaporation of gasoline through vapors.

Gas cap seals with three clicks. Good.

check air pressure on all 4 tires. max pressure is at 44psi. I sent just pumped up the tires to 38psi. Down approximately 10psi from my expectation.

Presto! This has got to be the verdict.

Next, I knew that I haven't bought fuel injector cleaner and it has got to be overdue .

I have to buy fuel injector cleaner. Hooray.

Last, checking drop in engine air filter. Alittle dirty, did the air sucking through element test on the "clean" side. Well, still works fine yet a bit restrictive due to paper/fiber material.

Off to Pepboys, right? Fuel treatment/ fuel injector cleaner and one K & N drop in filter.

STP has a sale of fuel treatment for only $2.15 which treats up to 21 gallons. Score! I can use half on a 10gal. tank and save the rest for later.

K & N drop in filter part# 33-2342 for $49.99. There was a little placard that says "Save $10.00 on K & N drop in filters. Ask us how." This is not true.

total came to roughly $57.00 with state tax included.

Upon close observation:

K & N has 27 ribs. 1pc and flexible. Oil soaked and cotton based filter element. Approx. 1 inch tall from base to top element.

Oem honda filter.

Filtech PP-TD30

30 ribs. Hard filter. Paper element filtrer. Approx 1 3/4 inch tall.

Installation was straight forward, about 5 minutes of work.

Test: drive around neighborhood and make right to Del Web and Lake Mead BLVD while staing in speed limit of 15 around the neighborhood and 45 in the street.

Observation: idle is at 800rpm from 600rpm. Easier breathing. Drive was a bit smoother, revolutions climbed a bit faster through all the gears. So, far I give it a thumbs up.

I will post about the results on my next tank or two to get an average gas mileage if there is an improvement in MPG.
