HFP Axle back disappointing

I bought and installed the new HFP muffler axle back exhaust today. This thing inside and out looks the same as the stock muffler as far as structure. It does look awsome being nicely polished, but sound and performance wise is the same as the stock muffler. I can't notice any change in sound at all. So for 300 dollars that I spent on it was not really worth it other then it looking really good.

You're probably not noticing a difference because you just put it on. There will be a tonal difference in about 2 days. I practically freaked after I spent $500 on the GReddy EVo II and didn't initially notice a change. 3 days later, I finally heard it. Same thing happened with my buddies CL-S. We didn't hear anything for about 2-3 days.

You sort of have to brake them in a bit. You'll see. Don't expect a HUGE change but you'll hear one. Enjoy. :)

Well If so, it wont matter. It goes in the exhaust shop Wednesday to have the premuffler removed, a High flow Metal core cat, then stainless custom pipe from cat to the HFP muffler installed. Should really scream after that.

I felt the same way as you, to me it seems like it gets louder after about 10 minutes of driving, when the car is fully warmed up.

I like it now, but I still wish it was louder. Weird thing is in videos this exhaust sounds loud!

If Borla makes one I might get that or hopefully the Comptech will be louder, I'll get that. I'd rather stick the HFP on ebay and start over..someone with an EX will like it.

the cool thing about it is I will have a custom high flow exhaust and only have little over $500 in the whole thing. We did a simular exhaust on my buddy's RSX-S and picked up 18hp in the mid-range and 6 at peak. The Pace Setter metal core cat flows awsome. Better then Random Tech. For half the price.PLus Metal core last twice as long.

Does your state have emissions testing? Ours does and I'm just wondering how that would effect the testing.

MADDOGSI - I have a Borla wail tail on my sedan, its awesome! Not loud, but has a deep nice sound. You can feel the power gains from the borla. If you want to hear your car as a ferrari type of sound, try the DC sport exhaust, I saw a video of an SI with downpipe, this DC sports exhaust and it sounded like a race car, it sounded great, but I did not go that route because I would hate it after a week of hearing that exhaust everyday, but that is just my taste, maybe you would love to hear it everyday that way so I just mention two different options for you to think of bro, hope all goes well with your modz.
My Borla

I'm not sure what is the pre-muffler? Do you mean the cat? Well, anyways I just removed the stock muffler and installed the borla wail tail muffler that is all. I wanted to remain legal, because the popo here are SONS of B**** and are always ready to give you a ticket for anything that they hearts desire! That is why I didn't do a header, down pipe and all the goodies installation and kept it simple.

atruhondagirl - Well, it's true that your exhaust has a deep sound and has great performance and great sound because I saw a vid of an Si with Evo II exhaust and it sounded great, but I would say is more louder than the Borla sound of my sedan but not as loud as the DC sports, but maybe its because is on the Si, maybe the borla on an Si would be a little louder than in my Automatic sedan but not by much because that is what makes a borla special, sleeper performance I would not know unless somebody installs a borla on an Si, then maybe we can compare it better

There is a resonator/premuffler before the actual muffler. Some people replace this with a straight pipe for more power and I was wondering if you left yours in tact.

Shop around here said it sounds awful if you remove the resonator. Let us know what it sounds like.

Oh it does no doubt. The premuffler (resonator) is what smoothens out the sound of the exhaust. The main muffler quiets down the sound. So id warn u not to do that. Keep the resonator but go with bigger mid-pipe. You are setting yourself up to sound RICE.
