what intake to go with!?!?

im eventually going supercharged so i know i should stick with a sri or some kind of icebox intake. right now im completely stock under the hood minus the jdm dipstick and i did a crap load of research the last couple days on all of these diy intakes.

i dont want to spend a crazy amount of money.

and i dont want to mess up the AFR with fixing up a homemade intake.

any thoughts?

by the way i have an 08 fa5 if it makes a diff.

me personally i like the factory setup with a K&N drop in filter to be honest with you. It keeps the A/F ratios correct and doesnt hav ethe hesitation or lag all the aftermarket intakes give. Trsut me i have had 3 intakes and finally went back to stock (fujita, K&N, AEM cold air)

I have a Fujita SRI and I highly recommend it. It sounds amazing, and you can feel it a lil on the butt dyno.

Fujita!!!!! Always. I love it sooooo much. I made just about 200 WHP with my civic with just the fujita and the skunk2 70mm exhaust.

Seriously though if you look through my threads any time the Fujita is mentioned I am immediately hyping it up. I also have a wideband and constantly monitor my Air/Fuel and it keeps it perfect!

FUJITA FTW!!!!

Noise Change BIG YES with an intake the car sounds SO much more aggressive. However the lag was enough for me to pull them all off. It gets annoying trying to get the car to go and it just hiccups all the way to 2-3 thousand RPM's In the upper RPM's you do gain power i will not deny that, however think about how much you are up there and how much you are down low.

Stock INTAKTE FTW

do you have the full stock setup in your car or did you take out the resonator or any of the piping?

i was thinking of doing the k&n and take out all the extra piping crap that leads to the fender..

do you think the intake resonator is making the car not hiccup in the lower rpms?

heatsoak will be a bit of a problem with an SRI yes, but for example I use my SI as my DD so that loss of 2-3whp between SRI and CAI isnt a big deal

I dunno what you are talking about to be totally honest. I have just removed the stock intake and then installed the fujita in its place. I also just have the skunk2 70mm. No header and still using the cat. Nothing special just intake and exhaust combo got me 200 WHP :)

Heat soak will happen in any SRI, but honestly I don't notice it at all. Besides its better than CAI lag in my opinion. It definitely beats hydrolocking your engine in everyone's opinion

i have taken out the resonator box only, i left the piping leading to the resonator because it draws cooler denser air from down in the front bumper.

Yes i think that is a good idea to do a K&N drop in and take out the resonator only and the pipe leading to the fender. But leave the pipe in that connects to the resonator.

No the resonator creates a bottleneck in the airflow and only really is there for tuning the sound of the intake. Does removing the resonator add power.. that i dont know, but i know i have no lag

200whp without header , wow your dyno is very generous . do you have a baseline run?

For my part, I would go with a CR-V intake tube, Soxfan143 housing, [unless you run a stock exhaust, so you could just section out a stock Si housing] and an Apexi or Fujita cone filter. Soxfan143 sells his own stands that are very sturdy and will keep your intake in place.

I'm also looking at getting an intake. Can anyone explain this "lag" and "hiccup" problem? Is it pointless to get an intake if you're only looking for sound and performance isn't a huge deal?

I did the homemade ice box with a K&N Drop-In filter, and love it.
