Need your opinion for my next mod, feel free to express your idea. Thanks

Got $800 free money. Time for another mod. Here is what I have on my SI currently:
Poorman's mugen intake with K&N air filter
P2R Throttle spacer + TB gasket x 2 + IMG
NST pulley kit
GM Synchromesh Friction Modifed part# 12377916
Mobile 1 EP SYN with Mobile 1 oil filter
As you can sell, my car is nearly stock. It's getting better as I put more mile, 8.6k miles currently. Here is my wish list:
Vibrant Cat-Back Exhaust
Buddy Club race header
Strup race header
HFP suspension
Hondata refresh
......You name it......
IMO, the stock tires suck. I dunno how much HFP suspension would help, and I wouldn't push my car too much on corners with those suckass tires. I'm not a fan of aftermarket intake, and I am waiting for something that's really close to the CTR air box or I might do something like NitrousG35's homemade intake box, so no aftermarket intake reference. I'm only buying one thing, so Hondata refresh most likely wont do any good with my current setup even if I add one more thing. IMO, I would like to put a rae header, but I have no idea how it would work with the stock intake and exhaust. If they don't work well, one or two months later, I will get a custom 70mm exhaust pipe with stock muffler, reason is I 've got too many fix it tickets because of my skunk2 MegaPower exhaust on my CRX. I'm tired of the swap. Let me know what you think or any other thing you would prefer.

"Hondata refresh"

Seriously, I would consider a catback system. Both of the headers you listed don't have a cat, there is a huge fine for that. You could always go vibrant with HFC

I know the fine is gona be ***, but if I stick with the stock exhaust, I should be fine. From what I've read, the vibrant w/ cat is not close to the gain from bcrh, so kinda worhtless

Vibrant cat back
Vibrant race header with HFC

would probably start with just a cat-back with the money you have, you can later do the headers as headers with stock exhaust doesnt exactly make sense, as more exhaust pressure will be released only to squeeze back to the stock exhaust piping being restricted.

OP, those are hard questions to answer as I think most of us have faced the same decisions. Do we want to concentrate on the show or bling part first, or do we want to focus on performance? I have tried to do a balance of both.

First mod I did was an HFP lip, which I am so glad that I did. Then I did a Vibrant cat-back. Made the car sound much better and also gave a slight performance increase. Next, I did a Vibrant race header followed by my homemade intake, which btw, can be done very cheaply.

I just bought some 18" CR Kai wheels and Falken RT615 tires. I'll probably do Hondata after the wheels and then go to town on the suspension.

I probably would lean towards a race header if your intent is to add a cat-back and intake at some point in time. I think a lot depends on how you drive your car and how much money you are willing to spend in the future on it. Otherwise, I would go with a cat-back first. Decisions, decisions....

Since I feel that this thread is a pretty open one, I'd like to add that I think it's very immoral to remove your catalytic converter, especially in this day and age when the pollution problem is getting worse, thanks not only to the USA, but also the new rising industries of China and India. The Earth is a lot more important than some performance gain on your car, IMO.

Header w/o cat - we're still running efficient 4cyl cars, it's not going to make an incredibly drastic change in pollutants emitted from cat to no cat on a handful of cars. Read a great article in this month's Wired magazine regarding carbon emissions and where real problems lie. Lawnmowers and other small unregulated engines are the enemy...

On an unrelated note, holy shit Topplayer, your sig gave me a huge flashback to highschool! I didn't think anyone else knew about Madeski anymore. I used to play Shackman front to back all the time back when I was in a jam band back in NC playing guitar, that's crazy dude...

hmm.. I think there was a guy who put bcrh or dcrh on his Si and he was curious on how bad the emission was,. Then he did a smog test and still passed. Yeah, I do lean toward the race header, but like I said I will most likely do a custom 2.7" pipe with Vibrant resonator and stock muffler so cops wont bug me and have a stock look. My girl doesn't want it too loud and I dun wanna get any ticket.

Bad idea, your stock muffler will eventually wear out and sound like ass, blowing it essentially. Get a quieter exhaust. I run DCRH with an Apexi WS2 exhaust with the canister part painted black. It looks stock, sound really nice but is quiet in comparison to other exhausts and gets great performance gains...

i would do either a header or the HFP suspension
if you find the right deals you could do both
get a dc race header for 325 and the HFP for 519 from an ebay store (that is if you have a coupe)

or do a race header and exhaust..

then...
save up a lil more money...

then youll be ready for hondata or w/e turning that maybe available by then.

Don't do HFP suspension, it's not worth it in the looks department. The Eibach prokit will cost you less, you can run it with stock shocks no problem and it's a slightly bigger drop than HFP and looks just right for those who don't want a completely slammed look (me). I've run it on several previous cars along with other springs that dropped the car too low but prokits have always been the perfect compromise between ride quality and drop...

function > looks

IMO

particularly on a functional piece of equipment

Yeah but when both are fairly comparable function wise (sure HFP is better for raw handling for autox but it's not like a world of difference plus the ride is WAY more harsh with HFP), then looks does matter and regret is a bitch - I personally like a slightly more comfortable ride, better looks and better value
