Question Swapping out ECM

I tried searching the forum and could not reallyget a answer. I am purchasing a friends ecm that has been flashed. We tried it yesterday and the ignintion would not function. I have heard that i would have to take it to honda to get my key coded, is there anything else that would have to get done? And if so what is the cost?

Give the ECM back to your friend and just spend the $600bucks from HONDATA to get your ECM flash instead of swapping it. Save yourself the trouble.

you must be in Florida? I tried posting this in the FS thread: the IGNITION has to recognize the key, it's not only the ECU.

your car's ECU has to recognize the key. the IGNITION has to recognize the key, and the door's unlock/lock motor also has to recognize the transponder in the key.

if the ECU was the only thing that recognized the key, why have specific cuts? why wouldn't all keys be the same?

further, if it was just the ECU, can you imagine how easy it would be to steal someone else's Si? just pull your ECU, bust open the hood, install your ECU and drive away. all the parts you'd ever need!

thank goodness it isn't that easy. take your ECU down to honda, and tell them you want it matched to YOUR car and keys.

I'm shocked that you got the car to run at all. you started it with your key and his ECU?

I don't know the cost, call your local Honda dealership. The numbers I've mostly seen on here are around 80 bucks to get it programmed for your car, but I'm not sure, I haven't spoken to Honda myself...
