Searching the 8thcivic forum, several members are running their Si's on 16" tires. But they said that some wheels (steelies/alloys) may not clear the brake calipers. So I'm wondering which ones will fit, and whether it's even necessary buying winter tires for Vancouver (I rarely go up to Whistler in winter). |

i know it doesn't snow that much in the lower mainland so it might not be worth it unless you do a lot of skiing or road trips. That being said, I used 02 rsx wheels (16") and 205/55r16 winter tires last year. Worked awesome, but its way colder where I live and the snow comes in november and doesn't leave until april.

If ur stilll running the Michelins that came with your civic they're pretty damn good in the snow. For an all season I was impressed. I didn't get stuck once last year... this year is gonna be different cause i'm lowered but psh... minor details lol.
Ideally for a winter it would be smarter to go with a bigger aspect ratio so like a 215/50/R16 or 215/55/R16. Don't go too wide tho, skinnier tires will help out more in our snow here (how little get). you could run on steelies or find somebody with a dx/ex and buy their rims off them... they're not too bad... or ur si rims if you're plannin on upgrading soon. |

No way man if you know how to control it your fine. I drove in a foot deep conditions with my 93 del sol that was lowered 2.5" up front with a rear sway upgrade and with studdeds up front and regular all seasons out back drove fine. now granted your not going to be doing any rally stuff but it should get you around fine if you know how to not be an idiot in the snow.

you may have been fine but its not recommended, the difference in traction front and rear is already pretty large due to the weight distribution of the car. You are just making that situation worse by putting winters on the front only. Is it work the extra couple hundred bucks to cheap out and put only 2 on?

My decision is very simple: either fork out over $1,200 for a set of nice winter tires on steelies (205/50/16), or go to Las Vegas and have a blast. AND have enough money left over to buy the HDPVR. Given that I don't drive enough in snow to warrant spending over 1K, i've made up my mind. Thanks for all your help, guys! Is *anyone* running winter tires in Vancouver/Victoria area? |
