Anti-roll bars, in doing thier jobs of resisting body roll, they also increase the load on the outside tire. which, given the way tires make traction, means that there is a Net reduction in the total amount of traction that end of the car can make (the end with the stiffer anti-roll bar). So... in some cases, it may be advantagious to reduce the effectiveness of an antiroll bar. Such as on the front of a FWD car.
Smaller would be the way to go... ![]()

A thicker FSB is going to improve turn in but cause more understeer from the center off. Getting off a corner is where time is made or lost. I want to get a smaller FSB.

By resisting weight transfer. It loads the outside tire quicker so you don't have to wait as long for the body to roll over, push down on the tire, and create the amount of friction needed to get the car pointing in a different direction. The down side of this increase in initial friction (traction) is there is less friction to help accelerate the car coming out of the corner. So you wanna gain a 10th going into the corner or 5 10ths coming out? Your call.

I'm not sure everyone understands the difference a thinner or hollow sway bar will make to their car. This poll doesnt really state whether there's a demand for a thicker or thinner sway bar either.
Also, I think HighRev1 is thinking about making a thinner one too. Good to see some options :) Last edited by truflip; 03-04-2008 at 01:30 PM. |
