WRX vs. bone stock Si

so this is my first race and my friend with an 06 wrx with downpipe and exhaust wanted to run for fun and i just hit 1k miles, still waiting another 500-1000 miles till i really start racing and so we go around 35ish mph roll and he beat me by about 1 1/2 car length and stopped around 100. i was pretty impressed but my mid-range on my si sucks till i hit VTAK! haha thats all folks. peace

wrx 1
si 0

man the wrx has downpipe and exhaust, that can actually add like 20-30 hp with out a tune. so stock for stock it wouldve been a lil closer

Agreed. I actually think if you'd REALLY raced him you would've won.

EDIT: I take that back. I dunno about the 06's but the 02-05's are dogs. They get off the line, but they wind out pretty fast.

A downpipe and exhaust are a nice combo on a WRX. If you get a reflash... it will add nearly 50 whp. Even better on top of that... is a protune. This gives you a broader torque curve. Amazing for what little bit of money that you have to put into it.

Now if you would have really raced... you would have went from a stop. Who races from a roll anyways?? Haaa!

Actually... I'm mistaken on that. The 50 whp is on the 02-05 models... in 2006 they switched to the 2.5 liter engine that is the same as the Sti but not as much horsepower... but its very easily modable to get it to Sti numbers (300 hp, 300 ft/lb tq)!!

Well lets see, any turbo car will benefit from an exhaust... Guaranteed your boost went up...

I thought the original WRX's were pretty quick?

Like mid to low 14 second cars?

Um...not really. They're good off the line, but that's about it. That's not a diss either because I love the Scooby's to death. But if you look at their trap speeds, which were pretty high, it's very deceiving. Their finish times should be lower than what they are. But they've got tall gearing that's not suited to them for anything other than possibly gas mileage.

if you look at the trap speeds of the wrx in the 1/4 mile they are only about 94 mph trap speed with a 14.4 1/4 mile from modernracer.com so that kinda proves that they get pretty weak in the top end. they only get that quick of a time cuz awd launches if done properly from a stop can feel like the superman ride at magic mountain lol, well not really but its pretty fast

edit: numbers bout the wrx were based ont he 02-05 model ... might be faster for the 06

from being a previous rex owner, (had a 05 wrx), having tall gears id say would maybe even help the wrx in acceleration, cuz unlike hondas, it feels like the torque and power of the wrx starts up at about 3500-4k and feels really weak after like 6k so if they had short gears they would have to rev up higher and not be able to utilize their power band or power curve

interesting. I've never ridden in a WRX, STi, or Evo. AWD Launch = superman, eh? What a sheltered life I have.

Maybe I'll have to stop in at a dealer and toy with them. lol

They are mid to low 14 second cars... I have an '03 but never took it to the track but motortrend says right around 14.1... which I think is kinda unrealistic. That was probably attempted about 300 times... haha... with Peter Solberg driving! I really love my subie though... but I plan on trading it in next summer on an Sti... then I'll have some horsepower... they are low 13s stock... and with a turbo exhaust and reflash they can be in the mid 12s... not too bad for a couple hundred bucks in mods.

Haha... yeah you do!! The real fun comes when there is white stuff on the ground... I love driftin in the snow!!!

The one thing that I like better about the subie than the si is the launch... there seems to be a lot more torque and it just seems to feel faster when you launch... which it really is... but it does die out rather quickly. I was gonna do all kinds of mods to my 03 rex but after test driving the 05 sti and getting a new job as an engineer... I want the Sti!!!

Also... an exhaust on a subie sounds amazing... in my opinion at least... ha... but I do believe the si has the better interior...

I think the 06's are a bit faster. I haven't driven one yet, but a friend said the car feels more "cohesive" if you will. Like Subaru decided to stop playing around, giving the STI all the good stuff :) He said it moves a bit faster. I still think though it'd be a driver's race.

the 06 wrx comes with 250hp vs. 02-05 227hp i think but try getting some mods on yours and the hondata reflash will clean up your midrange power delivery real nicely
