if its that cruial about being legal u could try a high flow cat and use the stock cat housing on it and it will look stock. At the moment high 13's is the best we've seen na but if we get a decent tuning solution who knows. mid to low 14's can be had fairly easy with i/h/e and tire upgrade. Every little bit helps. Imo a header would make the biggest difference.

if you want it to be 50 state legal, you could go for the Hi-flow cat and shorty header combination. although I think using ANYTHING except the stock cat actually might get you in trouble in cali...
Im in jersey and that would work...On the fbodies long tubes are "illegal" because it moves the original location of the stock cat but as long as theres a cat there and the car throws no codes it'll pass...So whats a good header/cat combo?

the random technologies hi-flow cat and the comptech shorty header are a good combination.

this statement is completely incorrect. I have a 2006, and my transmission started kicking third back out until I replaced the transmission fluid with Amsoil. I know of other members that own 2006 si's that also have problems with their transmissions.

the third gear problems are associated with the design of the six-speed transmission itself, and not the car.

Not true. i've seen Si's running 15s at that track. here is a video of me vs my friend @ Sacramento Raceway. I ran 14.7 stock while he ran 15.3.
