Autocrossing saved my car today

I was heading home from the grocery store today after work and I was coming up on an intersection that had 2 stop signs, one for each side of the road that crossed mine. This soccer mom in her GMC envoy wasn't paying attention or was on her cell phone for some reason and proceeds to being to pull out in front of me when I was coming at her at 30mph. Luckily I had no oncoming traffic coming towards me and I had enough room on my left to to a nice slalom around the SUV as it began to try to occupy the same time and space as me.

The reflexes I learned from autocrossing came into play as I looked for a pathway around her and trained my eyes on were I wanted to go instead of being dumbstruck and just staring at the SUV as it came barreling towards me. I came to a halt in front of the post office and pulled off to the side to calm down a bit. If I had oncoming traffic headed towards me I probably would have had to make a sharp right turn towards the SUV since it was coming from my right side.

Those Auto-x sessions really have paid off for me. My baby is OK for now.

Darn man thats crazy. nothing pisses me off more than people on there phones while driving. glad the cars ok and looks nice!

i need to start gettin into auto-x

Nice.......but sometimes your better off letting the other vehicle hit you.

Insurance wise, if you would have been in the wrong lane and hit head on.....it would have been 100% at fault. Don't think that GMC is gonna stick around. I see many claims where people avoid one accident and get into another, that ends up being their fault.

Anyhow, nice reaction. I plan on attending my first auto-x this summer.
