modernracer.com has some explaining to do, because i agree with all of the below statements

finally somebody who doesnt think that the si is a sub 7 car.. with the amount of torque the car has, i think if you put slicks on the car and dropped the clutch, the engine would die

i agree, i would say closer to 10 than 9.. my sister has that same car too.. i would ask if its the ls sport (which my sisters isnt, and may not even be an ls), but does it really matter? i dont see how you could make a car 1+ seconds faster without an engine upgrade

BTW, reason why the Civic Si's laggish 0-60 is in the low 7 sec range is because VTEC doesn't kick in until 6K rpm. Get a Hondata reflash and you instantly have a better 0-60 time (with 25 more hp in mid-range!).
1. motortrend didnt have hondata
2. i dont have money to do it right, which is get i/h/e with it
3. my dad would flip out if he knew i spent $2000+ to make my car faster

A typical stock base model (03-05 Ecotec) Cavalier with a 5 speed will pull mid to low 15's in the 1/4 mile with a good driver. I've never seen anyone have their Cavy officially clocked 0-60.

BTW, every 03-05 manual Cavalier has the same motor and trans. The fully loaded LS Sport weights about 300 lbs more than the base model making it slower in straight line performance. A typical LS Sport 1/4 mile ET will be about .5 seconds slower than the base model.

Modern racer is a terrible site because their numbers are VASTLY inaccurate. For example.. they say the Civic Si has a skid pad of .85 when it's actually around .91g. They have a quarter mile time set at 15.6 at 92mph.. PLEASE.. I can do a 15.6 in my engine without even revving it. Then let's now look at the Saturn Ion Redline. They claim is does a 0-60 time in 6.3 seconds... BUT only does a quarter in a 15.3... A car with slightly more hp, about 60 more ft/lbs of torque... and has an amazing powerband only get .3 seconds faster than an Si?

To be honest. Real numbers are more like 15.1 for the average Si. and a 14.6 for an Ion Redline.

1. I don't care.. look at videos on Civic's with reflashes.
2. It's only $595 for the Hondata reflash.
3. I'm guessing your still a kid then? Let me give you a little insight on something. How old are those Civics that are running 11 second quarter miles? Most of them are from the 92-99 era of Civics.. right? So that means those are almost 9+ year old cars that can outrun Corvettes and Chargers. Mind you, they are fully worked up on with new K-series engines.. but the owners of those cars saved up their money over the years to build that hot civic. Once the 6th gen Civic Si's are out of production and they start making a new body style.. the market will be FLOODED with cheap performance parts just how right now the market is flooded with cheap performance parts for the older civics.
As of right now.. just save your money, get a reflash.. intake.. and exhaust. Later you can get into the fun stuff when you have your own job and etc.

I don't think that this thread has anything to do with him wanting/needed to mod his car. He's asking about what a cavalier is capable of stock, not about what he can do to make his car faster than it is stock.

If he wants to keep his si stock then fine, there's no problem with that. If I were him I would to.

BTW, the Ion Redline is underrated from the factory and generally dynos out around 215-220whp.

Yeah, I never understood that. How can a mediocre company like Saturn turn out an actually very good car.. besides the fact that all the instruments are all in the middle of the dash.. ugh.

first off, im 23 and have a job ($12/hr), and altho you really didnt say anything that wrong or rude, you act as if im 16 and my dad just bought me a car and gives me $10 allowance every week for doing chores or something.. second, i have never and will never own a cavalier, i was just curious because the few times i drove my sisters, it felt really slow.. then somebody posted a link saying the ls sport is 8.0, which according to what you said would make the base cavalier about 7.5, which is hilariously wrong..

i am aware that hondata is $600, but with i/h/e we are looking at $2000+, and besides that, what will happen to my warranty i paid $1100 for? ya ya, the magnuson-moss act, but that wont stop a dealer from giving you crap, and i dont feel like taking them to court.. also, why put money into a car that im not in love with? i chose the best car i could for under $24000, but i dont even like sport compacts really (i dont hate them, im just kinda neutral); they look cheap and boring.. problem is, all the cars i want are $29000+.. the plan? to wait a few years until the car i want comes out, and then trade in the si

I'm sorry, but I fail to see how I implied a single bit of that. I noticed that people were talking about modifications that could be done and that simply wasn't what you were asking, which is the whole purpose of my post.

Also, I haven't a single time had an insulting tone towards you or any of your ideas. I don't understand how you gathered that I'm "talking down to you" by me pointing out the fact that you asked about a stock car and not a modified one. I do believe that I've actually gone out of my way in the past to give you respect for a few of your posts, as we see eye to eye on some things (it seems). I also don't know if you meant to make it sound as if I were the one that told you that a cavvy could do 0-60 in 7.5, but if that is the case then I assure you that I did not.

Feel free to hit me up via pm/im anytime if you would like to discuss anything at all, including if you feel as though I'm acting elitest in any way.

that is why i said "altho you didnt really say anything that rude"; i was leaving it open in case i was mistaken.. if there werent such a thing as ignorant flamers, i wouldnt have said that to you, but im so used to all the flaming and me having to defend myself that i damn near always assume somebody is coping an attitude with me.. like i said i wasnt sure, but perhaps i should have worded it differently.. i didnt mean anything negative in what i said, it was just an innocent question, altho i didnt word it as a question.. seriously, half my posts are me defending myself, and if you look around, half of all posts are either flames or defenses.. sorry about the confusion.. btw, had i noticed you were a moderator i would have assumed the best

Oh dude, no worries at all. I just figured that I should clarify as to avoid any further confusion.

BTW, just because I have a red name doesn't mean anything.. I still screw up and have bad days like anyone else, I just happen to help out with the site by trying to make sure that people follow the rules that the owner of the site has put forth. Basically, I'm saying that I'd rather you judge me based on my posts, not my "status" here.

The reason there is no 0-60 time for cavalier is because the test car still hasn't got to 60 yet.

The main reason that Civic Si can have a good 0-60mph at all is because you have to shift to third to get there when other cars still in second gear.

is there a difference between ls and ls sport? if so, does the sport package add anything to make it perform better? i would like to know the base cavaliers 0-60, but im guessing that will be hard to find..

im asking questions about a cavalier because i know 2 people who have 2004 cavaliers, and ill just leave it at that instead of going into a long story.. i remember driving my sisters cavalier and thinking wtf the 0-60 on this must be about 10, and i think she has an ls, but im not sure..

i wish there was a massive database with 0-60 times of every make/model/year/trim (im aware there are some sites that have lists of 0-60 times, but they are usually not organized well, dont list enuf information, and only have a few hundred different cars spanning 40 years)
1 sec is 4-6 car lengths

cant wait for that to put a turbo at 900 psi...and smoke the crap out of the veyron @ the ring
