I shift without the clutch sometimes. Cruising speed only, but yeah, it can be done with no harm.

Im speaking in terms of drag racing. If your a good enough driver to shift with no clutch and not harm the trans then more power to ya. but i will not shift car with out a clutch on the track and risk damaging the syncros

you learn something new everyday, then. Someone told me i should powerhsift @ the track and i decided i wouldnt bother b/c i didnt want to shift w/out using the clutch.

i may have to consider powershifting next time i go to e-town

Powershifting is where you dont let off the gas, hit the clutch and shift as quickly as possible.

Doing it on a stock Si is worthwhile insofar as it guarantees you will keep the car in the vtech

that gear box/tranny is set up for it....the Si's isn't. I agree that occasionally it may not be terrible to do, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

i don't see the point in power shifting. when i go to the track i see what my car is capable of and since i shift normally on the street i shift normally on the track. thats like running with drag slicks on the track and saying you can run that time on the street. its kinda like fluffing your numbers. not to mention its not that hard to shift super quick in our cars anyway i fail to see the need to rape your tranny over 2 tenths of a second IF that.

Yea man, you just steer the shifter into the direction and when the rpm hits a magic spot it'll sort of "suck" the gear into place. After you practice a bit its not bad, just don't try it beating on it lol.

Yeah dude, but if you and I were to race, I'd be powershifting. Your slicks example is specious. that 2 tenths 2 car lengths that you will lose by. Of course, desiring to go as fast as possible and win is at the basis of this entire discussion....

I'm confused, so power shifting isn't when you grab that biatcch with both hands and man-handle it into gear with enough force to break the shift knob off?

My car isn't running right... lol

NOOOOOO do NOT try to shift without the clutch at 8 grand or you will be calling AAA. If you want a piston sitting in your passenger seat with you... then try that.

Powershifting means not lifting your foot off the gas when you shift. Try it a WHOLE bunch at like 5500 or 6000 rpm before you start doing it near your redline... this is definitely something you'll need to practice.
