mazda protoege

so im coming back from boston on i-91 and this yellow mazda protoege blows pass me going atlest 100+mph....so i downshift and catch up with him, we went twice i beat him the frist time going about 125mph. then we go again and he beats me going around 130+...i kinda got scared cuz it was dark out, couldn't see the turns on the high way and the road was really, really bumpy so i slowed down...it was fun but i don't plan on racing ever again on that part of the high way...anyways i meet with me later and i guess he had a turbo, bov, cai, headers, rods, pistons, cat back and a few other things...im kinda pissed cuz i know i could have beatten him the second time but the roads were really badd and i could barley keep the car stright...but if we were in a better part of the high way i know i could have atleast kept up with him. oh and my car is stock and the tires are almost bald, (10k miles and didn't rotate my tires yet) lol after tonight i don't think im going to race again, in a long time....too risky.

125-130? Go find a dragstrip before we hear about the firefighters scraping what's left of you and your car off the road.

You got beat by a mazda protoege? You poor bastard, was there a 90 year old lady driving or was her 72 year old son driving?

I've assumed to this point it was the turbo variant Mazdaspeed Protege and modified on top of that. I actually saw one in a local used showroom and I wanted to test drive it but the wife took one look at the momo steering wheel and the wing on the trunk and was like "no f'ing way, boy racer..." lol

If it was orange with a bad (bad, as in, fugly) wing on the back, it was the Mazdaspeed Protege. Won't find too many of them around either.

Coming from a former Protege owner (my last car was a 2001 Protege MP3) I will say this in their defense: They aren't very fast stock, but their motors can be built up fairly well. There aren't many parts, but the few there are work pretty well. The MazdaSpeed Proteges only made 170 hp/16x tq and people built custom turbo kits for the standard Proteges that EASILY surpassed the MSP. The only real weakpoint of the car is a weak tranny, but it can handle about 250 whp if I remember correctly. The handle great for being a cheap, econobox sedan... I liked mine. My MP3 came stock with aftermarket dampers, springs and anti-roll bars... and if it had an LSD, it JUST might outhandle an Si, I kid you not. This thing was amazing in corners, just horrifically slow on corner exits, where it mattered the most.

IMO Protege(P5,MP3,MSP, I dont know much about the reg. sedan) can out handle an SI with the right driver...as they handle great.

amusing so I take it you've never driven one...put an SI and ill be nice and go with a non turbo MP3 stock...about 170ish HP on a twisty back country and the only thing the SI will see is the rear end of the Mazda. Twisty back roads are to Mazdas as straight roads are to Hondas....

My friends wife has an mp2 non turbo and it couldnt walk my dads suburban in autox. have a nice day. i wouldnt waste my gas on it.

i know why you think mazdas are for twisties........the ZOOM ZOOM commercials! Trust me buddy, theres more to handling than a marketing commercial. its called lsd and independent suspension

yeah msp's rocks, but the new SI is no joke, I handed it to one around here but if he ever puts a turbo on that thing I will be hard pressed. Handling I outmatch him hands down. I have tons of respect for the new SI, they are badd ace from the start and have a lot of potential.

I own a Mazdaspeed Protege BTW
