For the guys saying Germans need turbo to keep up...yeah they decided to slap a turbo not because it's very efficient way of making power and keeping the fuel econ down but so that they can keep up to a civic si LOL. 800 bux in 1 mod and the GTi is up to 300ft-lbs of torque, yes it's because it's got a turbo... And yes the Gti will be less reliable 5-7 yrs down the road. LOL |

N/A european compacts aren't built the same way as asian compacts.
Also...I'd like to see a stock 1.8t with turbo lag. Those turbos are so tiny, they are fully spooled by like 2500rpm. Even when they are chipped and the boost is set to 22psi...they are still fully spooled by like 3k rpm. |

2006 Volkswagen GTI vs. 2006 Honda Civic Si - AutoWeek Magazine
This is a nice comparison. There are still many variables to take into account, but for the most part, this is pretty close. These are the results for the 2.0t GTi, for those that didn't catch that. |

Anyway, I was just trying to make a point that you can't really complain about turbo lag in a 1.8t when you're comparing it to a k20 which has a whopping 135 lbs-ft of torque. Again, don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a screamer over a torque monster any day. I'm just sayin... |

guys i work at a vw dealership selling cars.. plz dont hate me lmao. i used to sell hondas if that helps but anyway. i race the gti's we have here in stock all the time me and the sales guys. we got some pre owned 1.8t's that i raced.. no contest 1.8t's = slow owned by like 12 car lengths at 100mph I have a friend who works their with an 06 mkv we race all the time as long as you are DECENT at shifting the si should pull on the mkv but its a drivers race.
stock for stock the si and mkv are gonna be about even.. i have some mods.. my friend with the mkv used to talk so much crap saying how i have no tq and how i need mods to beat him and that all hes gotta do is get an intake and gain 30hp to beat me while i need to get intake header etc.. so guess what he gets his intake and im still faster haha 30hp my ass :\ i just sit back laugh and am like i see i have no tq but still beat you so go jump in a lake lol. |
