Any NASA/SCCA approved roll caged civic's?

Interested to see if anyone has put a roll cage into their DD yet. If so how inconvenient is it from day to day and how much did you hack up the interior/dash? Post up pics if you have em.. peace k/tcr

Roll bar padding is only to absorb the impact from a helmet. I had a full cage in my civic si. Sick Sick custom cage I would never imagine driving that car without a helmet. Even just working on the car can be a problem I bang my head so many times geting in and out GOD DAMMIT that shit hurts. Please for your own saftey don't put a cage in a street car. Roll bar fine but take out your back seats then so no one can even try to use them :) The point of the thing is to be safer not more hazardous to people.

I guess I will have to look into the SCCA rule book and see what would meet their criteria as far as roll cage vs. rollbar.
And yeah the back seats are coming out any day now ... due to the fact that I was giving four drunk people a ride back from seattle a couple of weeks ago and the three in the back seat ended up blowing chunks all over the place... good thing I opted for the all weather mats and had a suede kit to clean the arm rest and rear seat. You can't imagine how pissed I was!!!! It's those kind of days when I wish I got an S2k instead. peace k/tcr

Ok amybee thats not the right term But see in the picture the upper bar in the front half of the car, imagine that in the shape of a D Rounded The rounded corners by the windshield and the flat side towards the main hoop...That front area is required...

If you look in this picture, basically the upper area is called a D bar or ring I forget...

Yeah something that extensive won't work for a DD.... Living in the Seattle area there isn't a true road course to frequent anyway.... but when I move back to PA I would really like to go to Watkins Glen and have a good time.

Thanks for the insight and driving experience with a cage.

I love the Glenn...But you can always just do HPDE's and no cage is needed.....

Yeah the Glen is beautiful ... I miss the Classic Car races .. something about seeing gt500's and old porsches makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Two GT500's did get trashed that weekend which made me want to cry. I never made it to the race they do through the downtown streets but I bet that is something. We went up for the GT/LeMans race one year and they had a special showing of the new Porsche Carrera GT it was the first one in the states at the time and soooo many people were drooling(including myself). That was back when I had my '87 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z with a Super 60 kit and my '86 Shelby Charger.. damn I miss those cars.

At the run offs this year there where a ton of 8th gen si's.. all had the same cage set up.. to be door to door legal in nasa or scca you will need a d ring..ie.. front bars.. you will also need side impact protection. I am 100% against any after market harness or roll bar in a street car. Honda spent alot of time crash testing and making sure out side impact air bags work.. a roll bar will block this from working.. plus it stiffens up the car and makes some of the crush zones no respond like they should.. not a bad thing on a race car.. but on a street car.. it will kill you.... so stay away form roll bars in a street car.. if you want to wear a hans device and helmet.. and get a good race seat with 5point harnesses.. then hey get roll bar .. but you will look goffy going to work like that...
