REDLINED!

OKAY today i was cruising on my streets. There's an integra that passes me up and cuts me off, so i just step on it and go around him but while in the moment i forgot to shift and i was at 8500rpms i felt as if it automatically send me back to 7800rpms maybe i let go of my foot so fast i didnt realize but i think nothing happens if you redline in a new civic si... or does anyone else knows if its possible to blow the engine?

My 2001 5MT had a governor on it. I would think that they would still have that on the 2006 MTs. I am also pretty sure that you can start to damage your engine if you redline it a lot and make the governor kick in a lot.

You should be OK. The Si has fuel cut off at 8500 to save the motor. I wouldn't do it on purpose but you didn't damage anything.

Wait, so that means I cant blow my engine?!?!..Im not sure about that Fuliblue, I think you can blow your engine if your redlining to long. If what your telling me is true, I would redline more often with the redlight blinking.

YOu won't blow your motor, trust me.... All it does is cut fuel... Unless you are FI and at full boost, you wont have a problem...

Ah sarcasm...LOL. What I should have said was that time he hit the fuel cut off wouldn't do any damage. You obviously don't want to ride the redline all day. Any engine is blowupable. (Is that a word?) Besides you aren't making any more power after 7800 anyway. We get 197hp at 7800 RPM.

It doesnt matter if you aren't making MORE power after 7800, but as long as it stays relatively flat and doesnt fall off completely, you still have power after that, so you aren't going to slow down...

Sounds good! Cause I feel like the car is talking to me when I see that redlight blinking, I feel its saying something like.."Shift you asshole before I blowup on your ass, and leave you stranded in this street."..

But you won't go any faster so it's just best to shift at your power peak.

EXactly... keep thinking like that and you'll loose many races... Don't complain when you go to the track and run a 16

My point (that 2rotormotor seems to be misunderstanding) is that revving past 8000 before you shift will just slow you down. Our HP peak is 7800. You go up to 8000 because when you shift the RPM's will fall off a bit in to the 6K range. Which is still in Vtec. If you check dyno charts the HP falls off past 8K. I'm not trying to argue with 2rotormotor. If he wants to rev upto 8500 before he shifts thats up to him. I'm just saying that you wont be making anymore power unless you have something like a Hondata ECU, and it will slow you down.

There's a rev limiter only if you're shifting up....if you downshift to a lower gear that will redline (ie: 5th to 3rd if your going fast enough) the rev limiter does not kick in and you risk blowing the motor

The rev limiter is not a physical device, all it does is cut fuel or spark(iirc) and when you downshift, you are forcing the motor to redline, you can turn off the car and itll still do this...

What if you mis-shift going down in gears.... can you blow up your engine then?

If you go into too low a gear than yes, the rpm will be way too high and cutting fuel will not help at all. I was only referring to upshifts but I 'm glad you asked that.
