07 Si vs. Gti 1.8t?

New to the forums...

A buddy of mine has a 1.8t GTI and all the time he keeps laughing about "VTAK" and my new Si. If I would chose to race him, any idea of the outcome....

Si...I/E/RH

GTI...Tune, 3" Exhaust, FMIC and Turbo Inlet Pipe

Any opinions on if I should win or not?

That should actaully be a really close race...He might have and advantage since he has torque. What kind of tune?Race him, on the track though.

Some sort of APR tune I think he said it was...something like APR 93 Octane

Your right Im guessing he has alot more torque...Will I be able to hand from like 1st or 2nd?

I think he will win, the GTis are quick cars. But also keep in mind, a turbocharged car responds to bolt ons alot better then a N/A car. One last deciding factor, is it manual or DSG?

Its 5 speed and he's a decent driver...

Im worried from a dig because I know he has me on torque, do you think I can hand from a 1st or 2nd gear roll or should I ask him to run on the highway? Thanks.

Highway you should get him, and if you drop the PSI in your front tires to 20 PSI and feather out the clutch @ 5500 RPM you should get him too from a dig.

Wait... what year is this car? I just realised the new GTIs are 2.0T. Maybe you will have more of a chance then i thought.

This threads gonna be locked man(street racing) and also for the amount of accidents and things I'v seen beleive me when I say go the track. But I honestly think it will be close, I know with a basic tune on a GTI you can gain 20-30whp or so. I took a ride in my friends 1.8t passat and its a big car and still hauls...he has a front mount tune exhaust intake and a bunch of other things

This would be a close race. He would be you 0-60 but you should beat him 0-100.

It depends on what year Mkiv. 99-01 had a 150hp 1.8t while 02-05 had 180hp. Close race....at the track.

I was in the mid 13's (13.7) with my 02 GTI 1.8t

mods were as follows:

Revo stageII reflash
Audi TT FPR
Swiss Cheesed w/K&N oem airbox
3" Turbo back exhaust
ABD Upper and lower intercooler pipes
Ported intake manifold
Hyperboost Diverter valve (BOV)

If he laughs at your Vtec you can just ask him why he has a car with less stock horsepower and a turbo.

My buddy has an 05 GTI and I have a 07 Si we raced at Pueblo Motorsports Park (4800ft/7500DA). It was a decent race once i got my launching figured out. I ran a 16.3 at 84.55 and he ran a 16.1 at 85.5. He had a programmer for his car and nothing else. I am bone stock minus some Volks and NT555s. The slow et's are due to elevation... basically add a second to the times if you want to be at sea level. Overall it was a fun night of racing, It's driver vs. driver. You'll have fun. If he beats you, just tell him he is boosted. If you beat him, just tell him he is boosted. He'll like that. It's all good!

N/A vs. Turbo with similar hp numbers N/A>Turbo. Get Hondata reflash and you'll have him by at least a car length or two

Did you read this?? They dont have similar hp numbers.

The GTI is modded. ECU reflash,by itself is netting him over 200whp. The rest of his mods should have him in the 230whp range.

Thats a far cry from 180whp that we have.

they have 180 hp so its like 150whp with reflash there sittin at 180whp and the rest of his mods put him at about 200ishwhp. not 230. with bolt ons the si's are at 200whp also so its a drivers race.
were talkin bout a 1.8 here.
