i think it also depends on what track your running on and how many people are running with you tracks like willow springs, streets of willow, and button willow have alot of run off the only walls are near the pits and if your scared about some one slaming into the back of you when you get to a safe passing zone just wave them by or just do autoX at worst youll get cone scuffs on your bumper

Bah, humbug! Your Civic Si is a very good track car, even in stock form (except for the crappy OEM tires). You should track it at least once to see what it is capable of! You'll be a better and safer driver on the street with the skills you learn on the track.
I've been doing track events for two years now and I've seen a number of accidents on the track. Thankfully, I've not been involved in any. As long as you drive within your limits and keep your ego in check, you'll be OK. All but one of the on-track accidents I've seen were one-car accidents where the driver did something to lose control of his/her car. However, I was at Buttonwillow Raceway on Dec 16 and an Evo hit a S2000 that had spun and stalled on the track. These guys were in the advanced group, wether or not they truly were advanced drivers. |

Oh, for sure, but if this is the kind of thing he worries about then he should know the risks. I have been autocrossing for 8 years and have never had an issue but we have all seen the videos on the net (like that guy who lost control in a borrowed car and ran into a bunch of parked cars in the paddock) and I do know a couple of guys who have really lost it and broken lips and suspension components on curbs and stuff... All these things could happen on the street too and I always say that when you go to an autocross or track to learn better driving skills the chances of you (or someone else) wadding up your car on the street are greatly diminished... |
