I'll check your videos out when I get home.

Unfortunately my camera's batteries ended up being spent. I thought I brought replacements (I have to get into the habit of throwing the batteries out after each 4 runs since this little camera eats them alive) but it turns out I did not so I have no video to show.

Well that sucks. I find video to be a very good tool in evaluating your runs, not only during competition to find opportunities, but also afterwards to pick up some of your personal tendencies so that you can try to change them in the future. Now if I can just get my wife to get me a MaxQGPS data logger I'll be set.

Englishtown?

We had a blast at Fed Ex this weekend. The morning groups got hosed with the wet and rain, but it was all dry (save one neverending wet spot) for the afternoon heats. And Sam Strano and Lee Piccione always create some nice courses.

I'm sorry I missed it too! I am battling a bad sinus infection. It affected my ears causing my equilibrium to be off at times, and I felt I would be a safety hazard because of that. But the antibiotic and decongestants are working.

How was the S2000 with the updates? You obviously did your Top Gear impression!

BTW hugevilrobot (DJ), here's the video of my afternoon run. We were lucky enough to run in the dry, but perhaps it will give you a better idea of the line and what it looks like to not run "cone to cone".

Yeah, I really like Josh's vidoes. They show me all the things I should have done...

But yeah they were helpful. Next event I am going to try and run two cameras inside and out so they are easier to compare apples to apples.

Thanks Conger, just doing what I can. Of course as a watch that video, there were a few sections where I was a little late and cost myself time. Also at the start I probably could have held on to first longer. I decided to short shift though since the 1-2 shift was pushing me wide making the right in the slalom. In hindsight, I could have managed that a bit and probably gained time. Oh well, lessons learned.

Yeah, I haven't checked out then newest video but probably won't understand it as was well as a course I've run. The video from the "2nd" event really helped.

Here's a local TV segment on autocrossing, filmed at Giants Stadium. There's a black Si shown several times throughout. Anybody here?

So, I'm having withdrawals. Can't wait for this weekend for the WDCR event, then Devens the weekend after, and then the D.C. Pro two weeks later.

Finally was able to tweak a few things on the car last weekend. Raised the suspension about 1/4" for better geometry in the front (LCA's), increased the dampers an additional half turn stiffer, and set the RSB to full stiff. In addition was able to finally get my Braille 6lbs. CF battery mounted and good to go. Going to also try increasing the front tire pressures a couple of pounds. I've had issues with a touch more understeer than I would prefer, so hopefully this helps balance it all out. Good thing I have one event to test before Devens.

Ack, I'm stuck- cant decide between GS, STX, or getting a ES/sts2 miata. All of these would more or less be for next eyar anyway, as most major purchases are on hold to save for a house, but i can either get rcomps and konis and stay in stock for <2k, or move up to stx, where i would prob be dropping 4-5k, but have the mods on my DD. Alternatively, assuming we get a place with a driveway and a bit of space, I could pick up a 94-5ish miata and go to town with that- I used to have one and have really been jonesing for another. Could probably have a decent one all sorted out for 5-7k, and a fantastically fun street car to boot (not that nova is a great place to putt around). Also, the roomie and I have an itch to get into rallying, which would probably be a similar amount to get into... too many ways to spend $$$ on cars, eh?

This is really just venting, but any input from people? In the WDCR right now, I honestly dont stand much of a chance in any of the classes I'd be in due to a skill gap that I just have to work on- good number of quick drivers in GS and STX. Since its my first year, I'm not sweating it, just trying tog et the skill level up. My roomate is currently midpack in a large STX group in more or less a stock wrx, and we are pretty comparable in skill. no clue how the sts2/ES competition is, but I'm sure its pretty equal. At the end of the day, its all for fun though, so that is the most important thing.

Sorry for the long rant, but just curious if anyone has had a similar situation.

At this early stage in your experience, just try and have fun and concentrate on getting better. If your friends are all in STX, then perhaps just run there whether you do any mods or not. It's all about fun. Then as you get better, you can decide what you really want to do.

Speaking of which, I've decided what I want to do. Just need to convince the wife it's a good idea. James Paulson is selling his STU National Championship winning STi. I want to buy it. Bad.

I agree 100%. First year - stay on street tires and spend as little on the car as possible. Take what you would have spent on the car and spend it going to as many events as possible and going to as many schools as possible. Not only will you get quicker faster by investing in the driver rather than the car, you will have more fun doing it.

Don't limit yourself to WDCR. There are Autocrossers, Inc. events at FedEx field also. Then there's NNJR in Englishtown NJ and Philly region at Warminster PA. Also out west of DC is Cumberland MD. If you haven't been to one of their weekends, you don't know what you are missing. Their next event is the Cumberland Historics, just a week and a half away. Check it out at nationalroadautosport dot com

Regards,
Alan

I am toying with selling my racing tires and wheels since I am having trouble finding time to go to any events. That, and the local clubs are having trouble finding lots. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knows what they might be worth? I posted pics of them in this post when I bought them last year (post #202) They have about 6 events on them (or 30 runs), are stock size, weight about 15 pounds, and are forged aluminum. They are called Roja Formula 5's. Anyhow, if anyone has an idea of what I could get for them, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Very cool, I'll try to make it out to cumberland next weekend, maybe stay overnight, lodging up there doesnt look too bad and beats an extra 5 hrs of driving. I'm already doing AI at fedex, and as long as no one new shows up, i can say i won my class my first year (should be able to keep beating the viggen that showed up last time)
