Looks like they want to move the srt-4, MS3, and Cobalt SS TC to GS (and the ITR to BS, finally). I'd assume that in our region, the MCS will still be top dog, but with some development in the MS3 and Cobalt, it will be very, very interesting to see what happens. I really feel like the Si is bringing a knife to a gun fight right if this all goes through, though I still love driving it. Who knows, might be time to step up to the MS3 or something (love the MCS, but cant get over the interior, ugh), or an rx8, who knows?
I'd wait on this. Sit tight in 2009 and make any moves in 2010 if you are looking to change your Stock class ride.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I am so glad I am in HS in cases like this.

True. From what the fasttrack said, there are going to be shakeups throughout the whole spectrum of classes. Like you say, best to wait for the dust to settle.

I agree to a certain extent and may end up just getting a co-drive next year. But I believe that either way the MCS will still be either the car to have, or worst case one of the top cars to have in this new theoretical class. There's definitely a shake up coming, but waiting is the hardest part. Over the next three years though, I don't see the MCS becoming trophy fodder. We'll see, still plenty of time to figure something out and I don't plan on doing anything until the beginning of next year at the earliest.

DJ, while GS might be a little light in DC, there's a strong contengency in Philly that's close enough to compare with. More specifically, Tony Savini (3rd in GS at 2007 Nats). I co-drove his Mini once but it was a winter event in 40 degree weather and about a year and a half ago. I feel like I could drive one much better now. But again, we'll see.

You are right, I'm still a bit stuck in the locals mentality. Of the cars being shifted, im really not sure any would dethrone the MCS, except possibly the cobalt- I hear they can get pretty good camber stock, and I believe they are on 8" wheels. Out of curiosity, why do you want to switch to a stock class rather than one of the more modified ones? What ever happened to your plan to pick up that STU STI?

That plan was destroyed by the fact that now just isn't the right time for me personally to be buying a car. But I have been planning to get into something else next year. My wife loves the Mini and the fact that it's a good car for class, which I still believe despite the moves, makes it a good possibility. But with all of these mass changes coming out, I may have to put all of that on hold for another year to see what shakes out. May just try and find a co-drive next year to keep from possibly investing in the wrong car...again. Or perhaps just revalve the Koni's to match the higher spring rates and just keep running the Spec to save money. We'll see.

BTW, here are my runs from the DC Pro.

Piknockout...

I was able to register for a single AX-INC event and not for the whole series. I'll be there on the 20th. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hopefully I'll have my custom race valved DA Konis (rears only) by then, as I gave my custom valved rear Bilsteins to my friend Jeff (Jasyatz). Otherwise, I'm looking forward to running at FedEx Field. Awesome site.

It only took me two days of off and on reading to finish the thread from start to finish and I have to say there is some really valuable info in here.

After running my '06 Si in STX for a while, I picked up an '06 LX for HS duties today. Jack Burns in his Mazda3 frequents some local events, so I certainly won't have a lack of competition.

If you're in the Atlanta area, you owe it to yourself to come and drive a "Night" event! Next one is August 9th at Atlanta motor Speedway.

My results from last night:

66th overall out of 166 drivers
33rd Pax
Won GS by 2.8 seconds (my usual MCS competition wasn't there)

Stock except for G-Games wheels and Falken Azenis

Anthony, that's sweet that you'll be able to make it down! Will definitely be good to finally meet you. Also finally saw Conger today at the WDCR event...I thought he might be dead! DJ, good to see you as well. Sorry I had to jet out of there. My mom was in town so right after I was done we went out to lunch, so not much time to just hang around. I'll be doing a lot more socializing at the A.I. event next weekend though.

Speaking of that event, I'm actually co-driving a friend's WRX at the event in STX. I'm hoping to get a couple of non-comp runs after it's over to run the Spec and see exactly how far off the pace I am in the "right" car. Should be interesting.

No worries, family first. It's for the best you didnt stick around anyway, I did atrocious- can't make excuses, just was slow... it happens. Good to see you are continuing to do well in STX, have you been anything but first yet at local events?

Anyone have a chance to test drive one of the new turbo cobalts? I'd be very hesitant to get a new car for stock before the classes get sorted, but it is a very tempting deal, especially with the incentives they have now... and it would be a lot of fun in STX i imagine.

As a chief with the NNJR-SCCA who helps run things at Englishtown, I appreciate the kind words, but as a hardcore competitor... WTF are you talking about?

Warminster is 1000X better than the lot at Englishtown from the perspective of size, grip, course design options, speed... The list goes on.

I think our (NNJR) approach to introducing Novices to autocrossing is better than the way the Philly region does it. I make it a point to focus solely on getting the Novice to run the course independently, even if it is at 25mph. I don't share driving lines or tactics and none of the people who do Novice walks or the like with me do this whereas in Philly they are telling people to place the car here, start braking there... Info overload! Finding ones way through a "sea of cones" is challenging enough the first time without having to worry about "threshold braking" and being "behind on the cone". Haha!
